Urban night race around the street of Conwy

Part of BOK's Local event series, scoring towards Club Adult League and Junior League. The Campus is a mixture of urban and parkland. The urban section fills the centre of the area and is a mixture of residential halls for students and university buildings. It is surrounded by fields to the east and south, and woodland surrounding two long lakes fed by a stream to the west. Please use shoes suitable for both terrain types; spikes are not permitted. Students and staff are likely to be present throughout the area so take care when turning corners of buildings. Public footpaths cross the campus so please be mindful of walkers and dogs. Bathampton Angling Association may have people fishing along the lake so please be considerate and beware of their equipment. A primary road runs through the campus and there is likely to be a steady volume of slow moving traffic throughout the day, including buses, so be careful when crossing the road.

Event 1 of the SO Spring SOG series, aimed at SO members, newcomers and other local orienteers. Five courses, Blue, Green, Short Green, Orange & Yellow.

1 Hour night score event. Penalty 1 point lost for each 6 seconds or part there-of over the hour. Bonuses at the same rate if you get all the controls under the hour. All competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. ‘No whistle, no go’ will be in force. You need to have a spare light for night events. In the event of bad weather cagoules may be compulsory. Please come prepared.

Score event based on the streets. One course, with two time limits - Long (60 mins) and Short (40 mins). Using OOM 1:10,000 scale map and MapRun competition software.

You have 60 minutes, and a map with approximately 25 checkpoints to visit. Your goal: to score points by visiting checkpoints. Score as many points as you can, and get back to the start within the time limit. We will be using Map run app look at the SWOC website for final details on downloading this. You can choose which checkpoints to visit, in any order, via any route. Checkpoints are a mixture of lamp posts, fire hydrants and other urban features and have between 10 and 40 points awarded. The control sites will not be otherwise marked on the ground. The event will run according to current British Orienteering rules for the return to orienteering in Wales and will also follow any Welsh Government guidelines in force at the time of the event. Mass start at 7pm. Pre entry only via Fabian 4.
