The 43rd South Shropshire Circular we will be visiting the true south of the county The event will start and finish at Minsterley Village Hall Station Road, Minsterley, Shrewsbury, SY5 0BE (GR SJ375049). There is car parking at the village hall car park but no overnight camping before or after the event.
A challenging 25 mile route with about 4675ft of ascent over scenic and testing countryside. As is traditional for the South Shropshire Circular the route will be undisclosed until the day of the event when you will be given a clear and accurate route description. There is a 10 hour time limit.
We will welcome you in the hall from 06:45 for registration, a simple breakfast and issue of the Route Description. The route will be divided into 4 legs with 3 serviced check points providing refreshments. The route description will provide the grid references of each checkpoint and a reliable indication of the best line between these. Please be aware the route description is written to be used in conjunction with OS Explorer Sheet 216 (Welshpool and Montgomery) at 1:25 000. You must be able to navigate using a map and compass.
There will be a briefing at 07:55 and a mass start at 08:00. No late starts are allowed. Hot food, hot drinks and a fine certificate will greet your return to Minsterley
No dogs are to be brought on this event.
We are also not able to accept entries from anyone under 18.
Clothing and equipment : For comfort and safety, you must wear or carry all of the items listed below and you will be disqualified either before or after the START, if any of them are obviously missing.
- Mug (there will be no cups at checkpoints)
- Walking boots or event/fell running shoes with sound well-studded soles.
- Complete body and leg covering (running shorts with tights are OK).
- Wind and waterproof outer protection shell, comprising a jacket and over-trousers.
- Spare inner garment (such as a fleece jacket).
- Hat and gloves
- Survival bag
- Emergency food and drink
- Torch
- Basic First Aid
- Compass and whistle.
- OS Explorer sheet 216 Welshpool and Montgomery.
