The Holmesfield Howler is a challenging 6-mile trail race set in and around the picturesque village of Holmesfield, perched at the head of the Cordwell Valley. Surrounded by rolling fields, undulating hills, and edged by the wild moors that separate it from the Peak District, the route offers a fantastic taste of rural Derbyshire. Runners will enjoy a mix of varied woodland and farmland trails, following well-maintained paths and bridleways that wind through some of the area's most scenic landscapes.
The race is self-guided, adding an extra layer of adventure, and runners will receive written instructions to follow on the day. There are no GPX files to follow, and no marshals on the route. You are responsible for your own safety. You will be timed out at the start and back in at the finish.
The Holmesfield Howler will be run under UK Athletics rules and UKA affiliated runners will be receive a £2 discount on their entry fee. The race costs £5 for UKA affiliated runners, and £7 for unaffiliated runners. The minimum age to take part is 16. No dogs permitted. Refunds will only be given in the event that the race is cancelled.
The race starts and finishes in Holmesfield Village Hall. Runners may choose their own start time. Although the route follows good paths with few hazards, we all know the October weather can be unpredictable. It is essential that all participants carry a waterproof jacket, warm layers, plenty of water, and a working mobile phone with the race director's phone number saved (Charlie Knight - 07905 657959).
