Location: Near Kendal, Cumbria (Flexible Working, Primarily Office Based)

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Employment Type: Full-time, immediate start available

About Us

We are a dynamic and growing company based near Kendal, specialising in online entry systems for sporting events across the UK and beyond. Closely linked with our sister company that provides GPS tracking & timing solutions, we support ultra running, mountain marathons, endurance cycling, and other long-distance outdoor sports. Our work sits at the intersection of technology and the great outdoors, and we take pride in helping event organisers deliver seamless and safe experiences for their participants.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Software Developer with 5+ years of hands-on PHP and MySQL development experience to join our small, collaborative team. You’ll be working primarily on maintaining and evolving our custom-built entry platform, integrating it with GPS tracking services and developing new tools that support event organisers and participants.

While flexible working is available, this is primarily an office-based role near Kendal — a stunning location for anyone who enjoys the outdoors. You’ll be joining a team that values both technical excellence and a love of the natural world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance our existing PHP/MySQL-based event entry platform
  • Develop new features, APIs, and integrations with third-party services (e.g. GPS tracking, payment gateways)
  • Provide technical support to our in-house admin team to help resolve any day-to-day customer or system issues
  • Collaborate with the GPS tracking team to support end-to-end solutions for clients
  • Write clean, maintainable code and contribute to ongoing codebase improvements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software bugs and performance issues
  • Participate in occasional on-site support at our customers events (optional, but a bonus)

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of commercial PHP and MySQL development experience
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented PHP, MVC patterns, and RESTful APIs
  • Must have excellent knowledge of JavaScript ideally with modern frameworks like Vue.js or React
  • Experience with HTML & CSS
  • Familiarity with Linux server environments
  • Git version control
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience with Laravel or similar PHP frameworks
  • Understanding of GPS or mapping technologies (e.g., Leaflet, OpenLayers, GPS data formats)
  • Interest or background in sports events or outdoor activities

Why Join Us?

  • Work in a supportive, relaxed, and agile environment
  • Be part of a team that supports iconic endurance events
  • Office based near to the Lake District
  • Flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance
  • Opportunities to attend and support outdoor events around the UK and Europe

Ideal Candidate

You are a seasoned PHP/MySQL developer who loves writing solid code and solving real-world problems. You enjoy collaborating with like-minded people and perhaps even participate in — or at least enjoy watching — endurance or mountain sports. You’re as comfortable debugging database queries as you are chatting to a race director about the tech needed to support their next ultra.
