TERMS & CONDITIONS, COMPETITION RULES & PARTICIPANT DECLARATION
1. EVENT AND ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS.
These Terms & Conditions apply to all participants entering or taking part in the Northern Ireland Ultra Running Association (NIURA) 50K, 100K and Team Relay events taking place at Victoria Park, Belfast, on Sunday 21 March 2027 (the “Event”).
The Event will operate in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations of Athletics Northern Ireland (Athletics NI) and UK Athletics (UKA), together with any specific Event regulations issued by NIURA.
By completing the Event registration process, purchasing an entry or ticking the box confirming acceptance of these Terms & Conditions, the participant confirms that they have read, understood and agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions and the applicable competition rules. Where there is any conflict between these Terms & Conditions and the applicable UKA or Athletics NI Competition Rules, the governing-body competition rules shall take precedence in matters relating to competition.
2. AGE REQUIREMENT The 50K, 100K and Team Relay are 18+ events. All participants must be 18 years of age or older on Sunday 21 March 2027. No person under the age of 18 will be permitted to enter, start or compete in any of the Event races. Proof of age may be requested at registration or at any time before or during the Event.
3. CHAMPIONSHIP STATUS AND ELIGIBILITY The 50K and 100K will form part of the NI & Ulster Championships. Athletes wishing to compete for an NI & Ulster Championship title, medal, team award or other Championship recognition must meet all applicable Athletics NI and UKA eligibility requirements. This may include requirements relating to:
Athletes who do not meet the applicable Championship eligibility requirements may, where permitted, participate in the Open Event but will not be eligible for Championship awards. NIURA reserves the right to request evidence of eligibility. The specific Athletics NI Championship regulations applicable to the 2027 Event will apply.
4. CLUB REPRESENTATION AND CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITION Athletes competing for an affiliated club must comply with the applicable Athletics NI and UKA club representation requirements. Where Championship competition requires an athlete to wear their club vest, athletes must compete in the appropriate authorised club vest in accordance with the applicable rules. Athletes should ensure that their club affiliation is correctly recorded at the time of entry. Failure to comply with the applicable club representation requirements may result in an athlete being ineligible for Championship recognition or team scoring. Where Championship team competition applies, team scoring will be conducted in accordance with the Athletics NI regulations applicable to the 2027 Championship.
5. ATHLETICS NI AND UKA COMPETITION RULES All participants competing in the Event agree to comply with the applicable UK Athletics Competition Rules, Athletics Northern Ireland regulations and any Event-specific regulations. Participants must also comply with all reasonable instructions given by:
Failure to comply with the applicable rules or reasonable instructions may result in withdrawal or disqualification. The Race Referee / Race Director will have authority over matters relating to competition rules, including course compliance, pacing, assistance, conduct and disqualification.
6. PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITY Participation in an ultra-distance running event is voluntary and undertaken at the participant’s own risk. Each participant is responsible for their own actions and behaviour while attending the Event, including while at:
Participants must behave responsibly and considerately at all times.NIURA will not be responsible for the actions of a participant or for consequences arising from those actions, except to the extent that liability cannot legally be excluded or limited.
7. FITNESS AND ABILITY TO PARTICIPATE By entering the Event, each participant confirms that they believe they are physically and mentally capable of completing the distance for which they have registered. Participants should ensure that they are appropriately trained and medically fit to undertake an ultra-distance running event. Participants are responsible for making their own judgement about whether they are able to continue safely during the Event.If a participant becomes unwell, injured, excessively fatigued or otherwise unable to continue safely, they must stop and notify a member of the Event team as soon as reasonably possible.
8. COURSE AND COURSE COMPLIANCE Participants must follow the official Event course at all times. The course will be marked or otherwise communicated to participants through appropriate signage, markings, maps, instructions or other means. Participants are responsible for paying attention to their surroundings and following the designated route. Participants must not:
Failure to follow the prescribed course may result in disqualification.Course markings and signage are provided as guidance and participants remain responsible for their own safety and awareness.
9. COURSE CHANGES NIURA reserves the right to alter, amend, suspend or otherwise change the published course or Event arrangements where this is considered necessary. This may be required for reasons including:
Such changes may be made before or during the Event. Where the course is altered, participants will not automatically be entitled to a refund solely because of that alteration.
10. OTHER PARK USERS Victoria Park and its surrounding areas may be used by members of the public during the Event. Participants must show consideration to pedestrians, cyclists and other park users. Participants must not deliberately obstruct, endanger or interfere with members of the public. Where instructed by a marshal or Event official, participants must slow down, stop or otherwise take appropriate action to allow other users to pass safely.
11. CREW AND PERSONAL SUPPORT Personal crew are permitted only within areas specifically designated by NIURA as official support areas. Crew may provide food, drink, clothing, equipment or other reasonable assistance to their athlete only while the athlete is within a designated support area. Crew members must remain within the designated support area. Crew members must not:
Crew must comply with all instructions issued by NIURA, Athletics NI officials, marshals, security personnel and venue representatives. The designated support areas are the only locations where personal crew may provide routine assistance to participants. A participant may be disqualified if their crew member provides unauthorised assistance or breaches these rules.
12. PACING Unauthorised pacing is strictly prohibited. No person who is not properly entered and eligible to compete in the Event may accompany a participant on the course for the purpose of pacing, assisting or providing a competitive advantage. This includes:
A person must not join an athlete on the course for any part of the race for the purpose of pacing or assistance. An athlete who receives unauthorised pacing or assistance may be disqualified. Where an athlete requires a guide because of a disability, any permitted arrangement must comply with the applicable UKA and Athletics NI regulations and, where required, must be agreed with the Event organisers in advance.
13. ASSISTANCE FROM OTHER COMPETITORS A participant may receive reasonable assistance from another properly entered competitor where such assistance occurs incidentally during the race and does not constitute deliberate pacing or an attempt to gain an unfair competitive advantage. Participants must not make arrangements with another competitor to provide unauthorised pacing or assistance. The Race Referee will determine whether assistance constitutes a breach of the applicable competition rules.
14. DOGS AND ANIMALS Participants must not be accompanied by dogs or other animals while competing in the Event. Dogs and animals must not be used to accompany, pace or assist participants on the course.
15. REFRESHMENT AND AID STATIONS NIURA will provide official refreshment and aid stations in accordance with the Event plan. Participants may receive refreshments from official Event stations. Personal crew may provide additional refreshments, food, clothing or equipment only within designated personal support areas. Participants and crew must not create congestion or obstruct other competitors at aid stations or support areas.
16. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT Participants are responsible for ensuring that they have suitable clothing, footwear and equipment for the Event and prevailing weather conditions. Where NIURA specifies mandatory equipment for any distance, participants must carry that equipment as instructed.Mandatory equipment may be inspected before or during the Event. Failure to carry required mandatory equipment may result in:

17. HEADPHONES AND PERSONAL MUSIC DEVICES The use of in-ear headphones or earphones is prohibited during this event.
Headphones or listening devices using bone-conduction technology are permitted, provided they do not impair the participant's ability to remain aware of their surroundings and comply with the applicable UK Athletics Regulations.
Failure to comply with this requirement may result in the participant being instructed to remove the prohibited device and where the instruction is not followed, may result in disqualification or removal from the event.
18. TEAM RELAY The Team Relay is a separate competition from the individual 50K and 100K events. All relay team members must be properly entered and eligible to participate. Only registered team members may compete for a relay team unless NIURA has expressly approved a substitution and such substitution is permitted under the applicable competition rules. Relay handovers must take place only within the designated relay changeover area and in accordance with the Event instructions. A relay team may be disqualified where:
Additional Team Relay regulations may be issued by NIURA before the Event and will form part of these Terms & Conditions.
19. TIMING AND RACE NUMBERS Participants must wear the race number and/or timing device issued to them in accordance with the Event instructions. Race numbers and timing devices must not be transferred to another participant. Where electronic timing is used, the timing system will form part of the official results process. Participants must ensure that their race number is clearly visible and positioned as instructed.
20. FINISH AND RESULTS Participants must complete the prescribed course and distance to receive an official result. Results will be determined in accordance with the applicable UKA/Athletics NI competition rules and the Event timing system. The Race Referee will have authority over competition-related matters affecting official results. Where an athlete is disqualified, their result may be removed or amended accordingly.
21. WITHDRAWAL AND DNF If a participant is unable to complete the Event, they must notify a member of the NIURA Event team and, where instructed, return to Event Headquarters or the designated finish area. Participants must not simply leave the course without notifying Event officials. This is essential to ensure that NIURA can account for all participants following the Event. A participant who does not complete the required distance or who is withdrawn will be recorded as DNF (Did Not Finish) where applicable.
22. EMERGENCY AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE Participants acknowledge that participation in an ultra-distance running event carries inherent risks, including:
If an emergency occurs, NIURA or its representatives may contact the emergency services or arrange medical assistance where considered necessary. If a participant is unable to make or communicate a decision regarding emergency assistance, Event officials may seek appropriate medical assistance on their behalf. Participants remain responsible for personal costs or charges arising from medical treatment or emergency assistance to the extent permitted by law.
23. PARTICIPANT CONDUCT Participants and crew must behave respectfully towards:
Abusive, threatening, aggressive, discriminatory or otherwise inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated.NIURA reserves the right to remove a participant or crew member from the Event where their behaviour is considered unacceptable or presents a risk to others.
24. DAMAGE TO PROPERTY Participants are responsible for taking reasonable care not to damage:
A participant who causes damage through their actions or negligence may be held responsible for that damage, subject to applicable law.
25. ENTRY FEES, TRANSFERS AND REFUNDS Entry fees are non-refundable unless otherwise required by law or expressly agreed by NIURA. Entries may not be transferred to another person without the prior approval of NIURA. Any transfer, substitution or change of race distance will be subject to the Event's published procedures, deadlines, capacity restrictions and any applicable administration fee.NIURA reserves the right to refuse transfers or substitutions where a race is at capacity.
26. CANCELLATION, POSTPONEMENT AND FORCE MAJEURE NIURA reserves the right to cancel, postpone, suspend or alter the Event where circumstances make it unsafe, impractical or impossible to proceed. This may include, but is not limited to:
Where the Event is postponed or cancelled, NIURA will communicate the available options to participants. Any refund, transfer or alternative arrangement will be determined by NIURA having regard to the circumstances, the Event policy and applicable law.
27. PHOTOGRAPHY, VIDEO AND MEDIA Photography, video recording and other media may take place during the Event. By entering the Event, participants grant NIURA and its authorised representatives permission to use photographs, video footage and other recordings in which they appear for legitimate Event-related purposes. No payment or compensation will be made for such use, subject to applicable law.
28. PERSONAL BELONGINGS AND VEHICLES Participants and crew are responsible for their own personal belongings, clothing, equipment and vehicles.NIURA accepts no responsibility for loss of or damage to personal property or vehicles except where such liability cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Participants and crew should not leave valuables unattended.
29. ANTI-DOPING Athletes entering the Event acknowledge that they are subject to the applicable UK Athletics Anti-Doping Rules and the World Anti-Doping Code. Participants agree to comply with the applicable anti-doping regulations and to submit to the authority of UK Anti-Doping where applicable. Any anti-doping matter will be dealt with under the relevant UKA and UK Anti-Doping procedures.
30. DISQUALIFICATION A participant or team may be disqualified for any breach of the applicable UKA, Athletics NI or Event regulations.This includes, but is not limited to:
The Race Referee and/or authorised Event officials will have authority to make decisions concerning disqualification in accordance with the applicable competition rules.
31. RACE REFEREE AND OFFICIALS The Event will operate under the authority of the appointed Race Director and, where applicable, an Athletics NI/UKA Race Referee. Participants and crew must respect the decisions and instructions of Event officials. Any formal protest or query concerning competition rules or results must be made through the procedure specified by the Event and applicable Athletics NI/UKA regulations.
32. LIABILITY Participation in the Event involves inherent risks associated with long-distance and ultra-distance running.These risks include, but are not limited to:
By entering the Event, participants acknowledge these risks and voluntarily choose to participate. Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to exclude or restrict any liability that cannot legally be excluded or restricted, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence where such exclusion would be unlawful, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Subject to the above, NIURA, its officials, volunteers, contractors, venue owners and other persons involved in organising the Event shall not be responsible for loss, damage, injury or expense arising from participation in the Event to the extent permitted by law.
33. GENERAL NIURA reserves the right to amend these Terms & Conditions where reasonably necessary, including where changes are required for safety, legal, insurance or operational reasons. Participants will be notified of any material changes where reasonably practicable.If any provision of these Terms & Conditions is found to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision shall be treated as amended or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall continue to apply.No failure by NIURA to enforce any provision of these Terms & Conditions shall constitute a waiver of its right to enforce that provision in the future.These Terms & Conditions constitute the agreement between the participant and NIURA in relation to participation in the Event and supersede any previous terms relating to the same subject matter.Nothing in these Terms & Conditions excludes or limits any statutory rights or liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.
34. GOVERNING LAW These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by the laws applicable in Northern Ireland. Any dispute arising in connection with these Terms & Conditions shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Northern Ireland, subject to any mandatory legal rights available to the participant.
