White Cliffs Challenge 2022 – Terms and Conditions

I accept the following terms for my own entry. I also accept the terms on behalf of any other participants I am entering in this event, all of whom have been provided with a copy of these terms and accept them.

I have read and agree to the Rules of the Event and to observe the Countryside Code at all times. I confirm that I am in good health and have no medical conditions that may cause undue concern or inconvenience to others. I believe that I have sufficient knowledge, experience, equipment and navigational skills to take part in a long-distance walk, including in particular navigating overnight (on the 51-mile route). In particular, I and people I have been in close contact with have not recently been diagnosed or show any Covid-19 symptoms and are not awaiting test results or are self-isolating. I confirm that I participate at my own risk and that no liability is accepted by the organisers for any injury, damage or loss sustained by me during or after the event, or in connection with the event.

General Rules:

  1. Entrants agree to be bound by the rules; in all circumstances event officials’ decisions are final.
  2. Entrants below the age of 18 (on the day of the Event) are permitted subject to a) confirmation from the Event Secretary (with any additional necessary conditions) and b) parental consent, if appropriate.
  3. Time limits and checkpoint closing times will be enforced.
  4. Entrants must follow the prescribed route (without mechanical assistance) and ensure that their arrival at checkpoints is noted by event officials; failure to comply with the event rules can lead to disqualification.
  5. All entrants, but particularly those on the 51-mile route, should carry some spare food, drink, a drinking receptacle, personal first aid items and a compass - in addition, those on the 51-mile route must take a torch (with spare batteries (or a second torch)), and are strongly encouraged to carry full waterproofs, a whistle, a spare fleece and an emergency bivvy bag.
  6. Entrants who are deemed inadequately equipped (see 5. above) according to the prevailing conditions may be disqualified – equally, entrants may be withdrawn if event officials deem it unsafe for the entrant to continue or if, in the opinion of the officials, the entrant is unable to complete the route within the set time limit.
  7. All entrants must carry the route description. Maps in electronic format will be allowed provided durability and adequate power supply can be demonstrated if requested by a marshal.
  8. Entrants wishing to retire between checkpoints and make their own way back, should notify the event organisers immediately by calling the emergency phone number shown on the route description.
  9. Entrants who envisage that they will arrive at a checkpoint after the stated closing time, should notify event organisers as soon as possible by calling the emergency phone number shown on the route description.
  10. Full refund available up to 31st July 2022 (less a £5 administration fee). After that date, no refund will be available except if the event is cancelled due to future Covid (or similar) restrictions, or extreme weather-related issues, in which case a refund may be made, subject to a £5 administration fee.
