Downhill Running Masterclass
After all the hard work we put into getting to the top of a climb, the reward should come in the descent, letting gravity do the work as we flow effortlessly over rocks and roots under perfect control. However all too often we meet runners who dread the downhill knowing that they will feel uncertain and slower than they would like. Whatever your level, let this course free you from the downhill demons.

The day will take two parts, a morning workshop and an afternoon trail run.

The morning will be spent on trails immediately above Aviemore, taking our time to work on foundation running techniques and building confidence running down an easy slope with the brakes on and off. We will add some key tools for cornering and dealing with loose or slippy terrain. This will be an active but not exhausting session, leaving some life in the legs for a short run on some local trails after lunch to put the new skills into practice.

Mountain Navigation & Safety for Runners
Tempted to venture into Scotland’s high places? Leave the roads and low-level trails behind and you’ll be well-rewarded with beautiful views, surrounded by some of the most incredible scenery in the country.

Leaving the security of the lowlands and taking to the higher mountains and summits is hugely rewarding. Exploring the mountains transforms our run from a bit of fun exercise to a full day’s activity, and it allows us to explore the country like never before. We can travel through the mountain environment surprisingly quickly, travelling light and covering lesser-travelled terrain.

The main emphasis of this course will be to develop navigation skills away from defined paths and trails so that we can confidently head across open ground. This will include information gathering, from contour lines and features, and relating them to the map to find our position. We will also look at compass skills so that we can keep on track even in poor visibility and darkness.

An important part of running in the mountains is being equipped in the event of an injury or emergency. We will look at essential equipment and emergency procedures.
