Saturday 7th May – Buttermere Sailbeck – 12 noon – 9.3 miles/4314 ft – Buttermere village
Buttermere Sailbeck is a classic tough, rough fell race! It packs in over 4000ft of climbing into just over 9 miles so is not for the faint hearted! Starting from Buttermere Village, the route climbs onto the Knott Rigg before traversing the ridgeline of Ard Crags and dropping down into Rigg Beck. A brutal climb back up onto Causey Pike leads way to a stunning and airy run across Scar Crags to Sail and Crag Hill. From here, the descent begins over Whiteless Pike and all the way back into Buttermere – a long and exhilarating descent!
Wednesday 8th June – Belt up Blencathra – from 7pm – 1.5 miles/200ft – White Horse Inn, Scales
An uphill time trial starting from the White Horse at the base of Blencathra. This race has 2 checkpoints – the start and finish and it is up to you how you get in between! A classic climb for all those uphill enthusiasts! The route is just short of 2 miles long and packs in just over 2,000 ft of ascent.
Wednesday 27th July – BB Kong – 7pm – 5 miles/2500ft – Salutation Inn, Threlkeld
This route has it all – fast running traversing the flanks of Blencathra through fields, a tough climb up the stunning Doddick fell to reach Blencathra summit, super-fast ridgeline running to Blease Fell then a steep technical descent back to the car park. The route is 5 miles long with 2,500ft of ascent.
Saturday 20th August – Matterdale Horseshoe – 12 noon – 8.5 miles/3500ft – Kong Workshop, Threlkeld Quarry
A new slightly longer race – 8.5 miles with 3,500ft of ascent and taking in 3 summits. On leaving the quarry, you climb up your first big climb - Clough Head at 726m. From here, you follow the path and ridge line all the way to Great Dodd – the highpoint of the race at 856m. A wonderful runnable descent takes you down to the 3rd checkpoint where Mosedale Beck crosses the Old Coach Road. A killer last climb takes you back up to White Pike before the final flying descent back to the quarry. A new, tough but enjoyable course!
