SOLO SERIES 2021
With so much uncertainty in the world at present, including the ‘running world’, we all need a new challenge – Something to aim for.. a goal, a test of endurance, an adventure.. The only definite at present is that we can run alone, but we still need that sense of urgency and motivation to get out there and hit the trails. It’s as much about our mental welfare, as our physical.
We have a new race planned for April, but as an insight and recce/challenge, we are presenting this as a SOLO event during the month of January with a further two SOLO events planned for February and March 2021. Our SOLO events are designed to be run ‘alone’ or with ONE other person from your support network or bubble (this may be modified by ongoing Government directives).
We will provide you with the map and the gpx file for each event. We will share your journey through a dedicated Social Media Event page and through your link to *STRAVA* so we can see in real-time your ongoing progress and achievement. Photos of your journey can be uploaded for a pictorial account of your adventure.
51 hallucinogenic miles from Nether Stowey, in north-western Somerset to Lynmouth on the North Devon coast. (The route can be run in either direction for the SOLO event).
Following the waymarked Coleridge Way long-distance footpath across the Quantock Hills and Exmoor, made famous by the romantic poet, philosopher and theologian Samuel Coleridge. It was his meanderings across this incredibly stunning landscape, quite often under the influence of Opium which lead to the outpouring of some of his most influential work and lead to the emergence of the Romantic Poet movement. Coleridge lived for many years in Nether Stowey, Somerset (The start of the April event).
The route itself is a varied mix of woodland trails, riverside meanderings and high moorland tracks, interjected with picture-postcard North Somerset and Devon villages. The Trail is waymarked by ‘Feather’ (quill pen) signage and is easy to follow.
FEBRUARY 2021: DARTMOOR WAY 100 – The ‘FULL CIRCLE SOLO‘ (100 miles)
The FULL CIRCLE SOLO is a tough call at any time of year, but particularly so in winter. The 100 mile route follows the freshly waymarked Dartmoor Way long-distance footpath, skirting the periphery of Dartmoor. It is well marked throughout, but a certain amount of navigation will be needed.
The FULL CIRCLE SOLO can be undertaken from, and to any point on the Circle. Either clockwise or anti-clockwise but with the start and finish locations being the same.
The FULL CIRCLE SOLO is an independent running challenge, but it is possible to ‘buddy-up’ with one other person, either for the duration or for selected sections.
MARCH 2021: TSUNAMI ULTRA SOLO (37.5 miles)
Our most popular TSUNAMI distance – the 37.5 mile roller-coaster from Westward Ho! to Bude.
A precursor to the June event. The TSUNAMI SOLO will be an extreme test of endurance with over 2600m of ascent. The route must be undertaken during the month of March 2021.
No coastal ultra marathon of under 50 miles can match the TSUNAMI ULTRA for the remoteness of location and total elevation gain, so to be undertaken as a solo event in very early Spring is an exceptional challenge, but definitely an achievable one.
Although the June event is run from North to South, for the SOLO event we will allow the route to be run in either direction.
