If you can run 10km then you will be fine with this course

Come and learn the skills and techniques for Off Road Running, including Trail, Mountain and Fell Running with our expert instructors and running coaches. Get some navigation skills, start to feel the FREEDOM of the Fells.

Our whole team spend hours and hours absorbed by running in the fells of the Lake District. We can help you make it easy to select a route at home, plan how to navigate it and then give you the economy and technical skills to float across the terrain.

  • Any runner who has just started to run either before or during lockdown
  • Any runner wanting to move from the road to trails
  • Any runner wanting to gain trail skills
  • Any runner wanting to improve their up and downhill techniques
  • Any runner wanting to become more economic over technical terrain
  • Any runner who feels they have lost 'fell/trail' confidence during the lockdown period

** If you can run 10km then you will be fine with this course. We won't cover more than 10km running.**

Course Program: 

08:30 - Meet at the door to our office

08:40 - Intro and explanation about the course

09:00 - Head to Jenkins Field for some light running and drills

09:45 - Head out on a trail run spread over the next couple hours, where will will stop on route to cover drills on Uphill Techniques, Downhill Techniques, Efficiency over technical trails and terrain and more.

11:45 - Have a snack on route and discuss some navigation basics

12:45 - Look at practical navigation basics and apply to a run back to Glenridding

14:30 - Arrive back in Glenridding for a warm down, easy chat about the skills and some slack-lining if we have time.

15:30 - Course closes

Course Duration: 6 hours

Meeting Location: Mountain Run HQ, Ullswater Visitor Centre, CA11 0PD

What to bring

  • Waterproof jacket & trousers (taped seams please)
  • Spare L/S base layer, Primaloft layer or similar (no cotton please)
  • Hat or buff
  • Gloves
  • Hill food/Lunch Snacks
  • Race Vest/Small Pack to put it all in.
  • Trail running shoes.
  • An open mind and willingness to learn

Please be aware we might be moving at slow speeds at some points during the day: please account for this in your clothing selection.
