Please bring your own safety pins.
FRA mandatory kit is:
• Hat & gloves
• Map of the route, compass and whistle
• Fully taped waterproof top (with an integral hood)
• Fully taped waterproof trousers
• Emergency food
• Long-sleeve layer (current MWIS forecast is for 0 to -3c at 750m)
In addition to the usual FRA kit, runners must be prepared to wear or carry an additional long sleeved top (eg. thermal top, primaloft etc.). This may be omitted if the forecast improves. There will be a full kit check of all runners at registration.
Pete Bland Sports van will be fully stocked and located in the hard standing next to the field for any runners in need of kit/maps.
Full details of the race route can be found on the Ambleside AC website, link below. There are three road crossings on the route; Little Langdale, Blea Tarn and Wrynose Pass - please take great care when crossing the road.
https://www.amblesideac.org.uk/races/our-races/three-shires/
The old stile on the climb out of Blea Tarn is very unstable. Take care when crossing and if in any doubt, climb over the fence instead. Please take great care on the final descent down Tilberthwaite Gill, there are some technical sections with severe drop-offs which will be particularly treacherous in wet conditions.
There will be two flagged sections to take you out from the farm to the bottom of Lingmoor near Dale End Farm and then back from the top of Tilberthwaite Gill to ensure all runners use the southern path to Tilberthwaite – see map. Runners must follow these flags!
If you retire from the race, please tell a race marshal if possible, and report back to the race HQ as quickly as possible to avoid any unnecessary call outs to mountain rescue.
We are pleased to have SPORTident support for the race this year which means you will be issued with a dibber at Registration and will get a download of your leg times at the Finish. The link to results is https://www.sportident.co.uk/results/Ambleside/2026/ThreeShires/
Results will be uploaded soon after you hand in your SI-Card and If you scan the QR Code at the bottom of your splits print, you can see online results on your phone at the venue, mobile signal permitting.
Juice and water will be provided at the finish. There will also be hot drinks, cakes, and sandwiches. Please bring your own mug/cup for drinks.
We are taking part in the FRA's GPS tracker trial this year and all runners will be required to carry a small GPS tracker with them, this will be attached to your bumbag / race vest at registration.
