Blencathra Fell Race - Final Details

WELCOME

To Blencathra Fell Race 2026. The weather forecast for race day is cloudy, with a chance of showers, approximately 10-13 degrees on the summits with gusty wind.

COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT & KIT CHECKS

Registration will be open from 9am until 10:30am at Low Beckside Farm CA11 0XR.

*Please note due to registration being in a different location to the Start/Finish, registration will close at 1030*

Compulsory KIT checks will be carried out at registration. You will be issued with a race number and Sportident Dibber, only when the race organisation are satisfied you meet the race kit requirements,

Competitors MUST carry the full FRA mandatory kit. No kit, no run:

Waterproof whole body cover (with taped seams and integrated attached hood)
Hat & gloves
Compass - GPS use is not permitted.

TRAVEL TO THE EVENT

There is easy access to the event from the A66. All parking at Low Beckside Farm CA11 0XR on left as approaching Mungrisdale village from A66.

There are roadworks on the A66 near Penrith planned for this weekend - it may be a good idea to allow a little extra travel time to get to the event in case of congestion.

PARKING

PLEASE CAR SHARE - This is super important to avoid issues.

Please follow the instructions of Marshals and signs on arrival at Mungrisdale village, CA11 0XR. Event Registration area will include registration, event administration, number collection, kit check and toilets.

Event Registration is approximately 10 minutes’ walk from the race start.

Parking is available at Low Beckside Farm.

Please do not park anywhere else in the village, the future of our event relies on maintaining good relationships with the local residents and businesses.

FACILITIES AT THE RACE

FOOD - The Mill Inn pub in Mungrisdale will be serving food & drink. Traybakes are available for runners and there will be water at the finish.
PETE BLAND SPORTS, championship sponsor - will be located on the event field near to registration. Will have race maps for sale.
FIRST AID - marshals on each checkpoint will be equipped with first aid kits. Mountain rescue have been notified of the event.
TOILETS - there will be portaloos near registration.

EVENT TIMES:

0900 - Registration opens
1030 - Registration closes
1100 - Women's race start
1115 - Men's race start
1200 - Leaders expected to start finishing
1300 approx. - Prize giving

START/FINISH is at the fell gate in Mungrisdale.

THE ROUTE - There are 3 checkpoints: Bowscale Fell, Blencathra Summit, and Souther Fell.
Route marshals are posted for the 1st climb onto the east shoulder of Bowscale Fell, at the two ‘escape routes’ (between first and second checkpoints before the climb up Blencathra and before the final up Souther Fell) and for the start of the final descent after Souther Fell checkpoint.

The "Classic" route will be enforced. First ascent to CP1 will be partially marked.

SWEEPER & FIRST AID
There will be sweepers at the rear of the race, they are there to keep an eye on you from the rear of the race and confirming to Marshals on-route that the last runner has passed by. Some of the marshals will have a basic first aid kits and one marshal on Blencathra summit is a member of Penrith MRT.

YOU MUST REPORT TO THE FINISH AND HAND IN YOUR SI-CARD

At the end of the event, whether you Finish or need to retire, all SI-Cards MUST be handed in to the Registration/Download desk. Telling a checkpoint marshal isn't sufficient. Reporting to the Finish is an essential safety requirement of the event and avoids an unnecessary call out to mountain rescue and a potential ban by the FRA from future events. You will not get a result for the event until the SI-Card is handed in as all your times are stored on the card. Failure to hand back a hired SI-Card will incur a charge of £30 and could disqualify you from taking part in a future event.

Results will be uploaded soon after you hand in your SI-Card and If you scan the QR Code at the bottom of your splits print, you can see online results on your phone at the venue, mobile signal permitting.
