Saturday 18th January 2025

Many thanks for entering the third race of our Kong Winter Series 2024/25 - Clough Head.

Parking

Please arrive no earlier than 9am. Our parking marshalls will direct you to the nearest available parking which will be in Threlkeld Quarry.

Registration

Registration is at King Kong Workshop and it opens at 9am and closes at 10.45am. You must bring full kit and get kit checked BEFORE you register. You are welcome to leave any spare clothing bags in the workshop while you race.  The race starts at 11am.

Kit Check

You will need to carry the following with you during the race:

  • Waterproof top and bottoms
  • Gloves
  • Hat/Buff
  • Compass and whistle
  • Map of the course (available to buy at the race for £2)

If you don't have this kit with you, you will not be allowed to race.

Weather

The forecast is currently light winds with temperatures down to 1C with wind-chill on the summits. Please bring clothing appropriate to the weather conditions.

Race

The race is flagged through the quarry and round the whole course and has 2 checkpoints - Clough Head summit and White Pike summit. The descent is steep and traverses rocky and slippery ground - please wear appropriate footwear.

Please stick to the flags as they will show you the optimal route but you may wish to choose a slightly different descent line from White Pike down to the coach road as there is a mixture of steep grass and scree here and people have their own preferences. For the rest of the route, please stick to the race flags and follow marshall instructions.

The return route in to the quarry is different to the run out and is the same as the last running of this race. Please familiarise yourself with the return route which will be on display at registration and will be fully flagged and marshalled.

This event will use the SIAC – a contactless timing card which avoids the need to dip the card.

You Must Report To The Finish & Hand In Your SI-Card

At the end of the event, whether you Finish or need to retire, all SIACS MUST be handed in to the Registration/Download desk.  Telling a checkpoint marshal isn't sufficient.  Reporting to the Finish is an essential safety requirement of the event and avoids an unnecessary call out to mountain rescue and a potential ban by the FRA from future events. You will not get a result for the event until the SIAC is handed in as all your times are stored on the card.  Failure to hand back a hired SIAC will incur a charge of £50 and could disqualify you from taking part in a future event.

Results

The link to results is https://www.sportident.co.uk/results/Kong/2025/WinterR3/

Results will be uploaded soon after you hand in your SIAC (Timing Card) and If you scan the QR Code at the bottom of your splits print, you can see online results on your phone at the venue,  mobile signal permitting.

After The Race & Prizes

PLEASE BRING OUR OWN MUG TO RECEIVE HOT OR COLD DRINKS AFTER THE RACE.

There will be hot and cold drinks and biscuits in the workshop after the race and we will be having a prize presentation shortly after the race has finished at about 12.30pm. We will be awarding prizes in the following categories - U23, Senior, V40, V50, V60 and V70 both male and female if there are sufficient entries.

We will also be awarding prizes for the fastest male and female climber to Clough Head Summit and also the fastest male and female descender from Clough Head summit to the finish.

Finally, many thanks again for supporting our Winter Series and a huge thank you to our sponsors - Adidas Terrex - we hope that you enjoy the race.
