The Wandering Wintertime Wobble starts at Norbury Village Hall in South Shropshire SY9 5DX (GR SO 366592). The walk follows a new circular route for 2026 wandering through the Shropshire countryside taking in the Long Mynd, Bishops Castle, Heath Mynd and Linley Hill.
A varied 21 mile route with about 4,100 ft of ascent. There is a 9 hour time limit. A route description is available online to download from 1st November. This will give you a route which is recommended for safety and to give the greatest enjoyment of the character and views of the countryside. The route description is to be used in conjunction with the OS Explorer Sheet 216 (Welshpool and Montgomery) and a small area on the OS Explorer Sheet 217 (The Long Mynd & Wenlock Edge). You must carry these maps with you and a compass.
Important Note: There are 2 areas where the route is across private land. We have been given permission to use this land on the day of the event only. You must not walk these parts of the route other than on the day of the event. If you do or attempt to, you will be refused entry on the day and for future events. Please adhere to this to help us ensure that we retain the goodwill of the landowners for possible future events.
Norbury Village Hall will be open from 07.00 for registration, toast and hot drinks. The Route Description will be available if requested but please download beforehand if you can. (It helps save paper and waste).
Please bring a present for the bran tub (not exceeding £3).
There will be a mass start at 08.00. There will be two checkpoints on the route with basic drinks and snacks. If you have specific dietary requirements please carry your own food or ask us to take it to the checkpoints for you.
A hot meal, hot drinks and a certificate will be waiting at the finish. Let us know on the entry form if you will want a vegetarian meal at the finish or have specific dietary requirements.
All entrants must be over 18. Dogs are not allowed.
Participants should carry appropriate equipment for the duration of their walk and the predicted weather conditions. The conditions on the hills can vary considerably from those on the lower levels at Norbury.
We recommend you carry:
• Walking boots or event/fell running shoes with sound well-studded soles.
• Complete body and leg covering (running shorts with tights are OK).
• Wind and waterproof outer protection shell, comprising a jacket and over-trousers.
• Spare inner garment (such as a fleece jacket).
• Hat and gloves
• Survival bag
• Emergency food and drink
• Torch and whistle
• Basic First Aid
YOU MUST CARRY
• Compass.
• OS Explorer Sheet 216 (Welshpool and Montgomery) and OS Explorer Sheet 217 (The Long Mynd & Wenlock Edge) (A photocopy of the relevant small area of the OS 217 sheet is permitted).
AND A MUG AS THERE ARE NO CUPS AT THE CHECKPOINTS
All the rules and regulations can make an event sound like a strict, unenjoyable route march. They are necessary but above all please come looking forward to a great day out in the Shropshire Hills.
