Entries:

Pre-entries are strongly preferred, with only limited entry on the day so long as we have maps. On-line entries will remain open until very close to the event. Pre-entering ensures you have a map and greatly simplifies things on the day, which on a potentially cold night in November can be no bad thing. Entry fees are £7 for adults (£8 for non-BOF members), £3 for juniors (under 21) and students. These rates apply up to 1st November, after which they go up by £2 adults and £1 juniors. The same, higher, rates will apply for any entries on the day.

If you are a newcomer to the sport and do not have an orienteering dibber (to record visiting the controls, also called an SI-Card) then please indicate that you need to borrow an SI-Card.

Courses:

The usual range of NWNL courses i.e. Orange (3.1km, 95m climb, 12 controls), Green (4.2km 130m climb, 13 controls) and Blue (5.5 km 205 climb, 18 controls).

Controls (excluding the Start & Finish) are in beacon mode so they can be punched contactlessly if you have a SIAC. This does not apply to the dibbers available for hire.

Terrain:

Map A4 scale 1:7500. New area, new map 2026 by John Embrey.

See SROC website for link to full event details.

Start:

Starts between 18:00 (earlier if dark enough) and 19:00. Courses close 20.30. If you expect to need more than an hour and a half please start close to 18:00.

The Start is 600m, 25m climb from the parking area.  The Finish is 450m from parking in a different direction.

Remember to:

  • Clear and check your dibber
  • Physically punch the start and then pick up your map from the box provided (please ensure you only take one).

Finish/Download:

  • Please move away from the Finish quickly, and proceed directly to download forming a queue if necessary. You must report to download even if you abandon your run.
  • Take the splits – these are pre cut. Please move away from download quickly.

Results will not be displayed during the event but will be on the website www.sroc.org in the evening.

Facilities:

First Aid – a first aid kit will be available at download for people to self administer.

Travel Directions/parking:

Parking is on hardstanding in the farmyard, or on the side of  good track.

Planner & Organiser: John Embrey SROC

Safety:

The event is on an open exposed hill. Please come prepared for the expected weather conditions. Wearing/carrying adequate waterproofs may be made compulsory. All runners should have a spare headtorch as well as their main torch, and a whistle.

You must report to the finish and download after the event, even if you retire.

A quick reminder for newcomers: If you’re not currently a member of British Orienteering, you won’t be covered by the organisation’s public liability insurance for this event. You’re very welcome to take part, but please be aware that you do so at your own risk.
