SilverBackTrails Goathland V (5) Trig Challenge open to runners & walkers.
The event can be entered as a pair or a solo participant.
Starting and finishing from the Village Hall in the beautiful village of Goathland, in The North York Moors National Park. It was the setting of the fictional village of Aidensfield in the popular Police drama Heartbeat, which was filmed in and around Goathland for many years.
Runners or walkers will navigate themselves around a course of circa 37 miles visiting five listed structures otherwise known as Triangulation Pillars. The route is one of your own choosing as long as public rights of way are used, all checkpoints must be visited, and in the order given to you prior to the event.
The CP and pillar locations will be sent out to participants prior to the event so that some route planning can be done. There will be a map with the suggested route at registration for you to have a look at, you will also be sent a gpx of this prior to the event.
There will be a mystery checkpoint which will not be revealed until you are on the course at one of the marshalled checkpoints. A surprise awaits, this could be a trick or a treat...
The navigational element of the event is not too difficult, all the CP locations are in prominent locations and should be easily identified. As the event is open to pairs it means that if you are not so experienced with the navigational side of things, you can enter as a team and get round the course together.
Be assured that any route that you choose will have a variety of terrain, stunning views, and plenty of hills.
Participants will need to be self-supported however there will be 3 CP locations providing snacks and drinks.
Participants should be comfortable in using both map and compass, this is a challenge for the individuals taking part so there are no support crews, or support runners /walkers allowed. Pairs and solos must go to each CP and complete the full course. Runners and walkers will have 15 hours to complete the event.
Registration will take place at Goathland Village Hall from 7:30 am with a mass start at 8:30 am.
There are no parking facilities for those taking part at the village hall, please use the car parks in the village.
All finishers will receive a medal and a certificate, a to remember their achievement by.
Optional, event specific technical T shirt can be purchased via SilverBackTrails club shop on www.summitcrazy.co.uk £18.
There will be a hot meal tea/ coffee provided at the end for all those taking part. This will include vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Participants must be over 18 on the day of the event unless participating as pair and accompanied by an adult.
The following kit must be carried:
This is the bare minimum that should be carried, the weather can still be a force to be reckoned with on the North York Moors in April.
All participants will sign to say they are carrying the correct kit. There may be spot checks along the way.
Walkers and runners will have 15 hrs to complete the challenge.
Participants should be aware that they may have to finish the challenge in the dark.
Entry cost is £70 per pair, or £35 for solos and is limited to a maximum of 65 participants.
