Welcome to the second annual event from Quadrio Events, The Oak and Coal Ultra.
This 50k, mixed terrain race, takes you through the history of North Nottinghamshire. Starting and finishing at Ticking Clock Brewery, a wonderful microbrewery in Shireoaks run by a dedicated member of both the running and brewing industries, the Quadrio team will take you through the forests (Oak) and colliery villages (Coal) of the local area.
You will see a route through Clumber Park and other local woodland, then into the smaller ex colliery villages that are beautiful and quaint. You’ll see parts of the Robin Hood Way and the Cuckoo Way.
You’ll be supported by four, well stocked, aid stations along the way. Each approximately 7 miles apart, meaning you need very little kit with you if you wish, as you can restock regularly.
We will offer a drop bag at CP2 and also a drop sandwich bag for any food only items you’d like to stock up on at half way that you are particularly fond of and may not find on our checkpoints.
The day will begin with registration from 7:30am and event start at 9am. With a 10 hour cut off, we aim to get every runner and walker round in the cut off time and will make sure we track you all well along the way.
This route has around 1,700 feet of elevation, but paths and B roads are super easy to navigate still. We will have a very well tested GPX file and written instructions for you to navigate by, but please note that this will not be a signposted route.
Marshalls will help you at aid stations and any key road crossings on the way, to get you safely to your destination.
What is more, our resident DJ will be playing tunes at Event HQ and the start and finish, Ticking Clock Brewery. You will be able to celebrate your success until late in the evening and stay and celebrate with a few drinks and some amazing local food vans and vendors.
Finally, you will leave the event with a bespoke pint glass, commemorating our inaugural Oak and Coal Ultra. The logo has a bespoke colourway for 2027, so make sure you’re there to collect it, as you’ll want to collect the future years’ to go with them!
We have solo entry prices and pairs entry prices below. A pairs entry does not require you to run together on the day, it’s just a way of entering at a slightly discounted rate and bring a friend along with you. Please put your wittiest team name in as a pair, as there will be a prize on offer for the Brewery’s favourite one!
