The High Peak 40 is a 40.5-mile (65km) ultramarathon around the Peak District, starting and finishing in the spa town of Buxton.

First run in 1986 and revived in 2024 after a seven-year break, it returns on Saturday 18 September 2027 for its 34th edition. With six checkpoints and a 14-hour cut-off, it suits runners making the step up to 40 miles for the first time as much as those who want to race a course with four decades of history behind it.

The loop takes in around 5,800ft of climb, heading out through the Goyt Valley, over Mam Tor and down Cave Dale, along the Monsal Trail and up out of two Deep Dales before the road back via Chelmorton.

Registration opens at Buxton Community School from 06:30, closing at 07:30, with the race starting at 08:00 in the Pavilion Gardens, and the finish is back at the school.

Entries are limited to 300.
