Introduction

The Lakes Challenge (70KM) is a fantastic entry point for the Coast2Coast series. Participants will traverse the Lake District, following a beautiful and testing section of Wainwright’s Coast to Coast route that offers up some of its biggest accents.

Starting at St Bees and finishing in Patterdale, this route offers a condensed version of the Coast to Coast experience - combining coastal trails, mountain passes, and typically challenging Lake District terrain.

A great place to start or a great run in itself.

The Route

The route follows the Wainright’s Coast to Coast path from St Bees to Patterdale. While sections are way-marked, this should not be solely relied upon for navigation.

The route  includes coastal paths, steep climbs, rocky descents, and mountain terrain throughout.

Conditions can vary significantly depending on weather.

A GPX file and final route details will be provided in advance of the event.

Checkpoints

There will be only one major checkpoint for this route. (Rosthwaite)

Key checkpoint locations will include:

  • Ennerdale (Water Station)
  • Rosthwaite
  • Patterdale (Finish)

All checkpoints will provide:

  • Hot and/or cold food (Non-Vegan and Vegan options available)
  • Hot & cold water / beverages
  • Snacks & race nutrition
  • Indoor access
  • Toilet facilities & period products
  • First aid support

Cut-Offs

Overall cut-off: 18 hrs

Participants who fall behind cut-off pace may be withdrawn from the event for safety reasons.

Individual checkpoint cut-offs to be detailed in final race pack.

Safety & Rules

This is a physically demanding 70KM mountain event. Participants must be adequately trained and prepared.

A mandatory kit list will apply and must be respected at all times (details provided prior to race day).

Live tracking will be in place for all participants - It is the participant’s responsibility to return the tracker.

The route must be followed at all times.
