BL Long-O - Burnbanks and Wether Hill

The car park is at Drybarrows Farm  (NY501171, W3W: drift.disco.flame), 2km south-west of Bampton. The start and finish are both within  800m of the car park. Portaloo in the car park.

 

Terrain:  Open fell with generally good runability. It is mostly grassy but with patches of heather and tussocks. There is some bracken, particularly on Burnbanks, but it is mapped and can be avoided.

 

Courses: 

>  Long 17.0km, 820m climb

>  Medium 13.5km, 650m climb

>  Short 7.4km, 335m climb 

>  Very Short 5.1km, 255m climb

>  Super Short 2.9km, 155m climb

Courses, especially the longer ones, will be planned with the emphasis on route choice rather than fine navigation, so will suit less experienced orienteers as well as regulars.

 

Map:  1:15,000 for Long, 1:12500 for Medium, 1:10,000 for Short, 1:7500 for Very Short and Super Short

 

Entries: Close 13th August. Some late entry will be available subject to map availability but you must contact the organisers ( [email protected] ) in advance to confirm. There will be no entry on the day. Dibber hire is  available at no charge  - just leave the SI number blank when entering, and collect the dibber on the day.

 

Start Times: 10:00 – 12:00, but if you are doing the Long course try to start before 11am (unless you know you are very fast!).

 

Courses Close: 3:30

 

Dogs: Allowed on leads in car park and on courses..

 

Pairs: You are very welcome to run as a pair. Enter both of you, start and finish at the same time and let the organisers know you want to appear as a pair in the results.
