10km Red Kite Race

Come and discover one of County Durham's best hidden secrets.

This is a challenging off-road trail race, of roughly 10km, hosted by Derwent Valley Trail Runners and taking place in the beautiful Derwent Valley, home to the famous Red Kite. Registration is at the Dipton Jubilee Centre, with the start a short walk away. The course will be fully marked and marshalled. The terrain is a mixture of interesting trails, twisting and turning through ancient woodland, rocky underfoot in parts, with a small section of fast paths and including a stream crossing.

Ongoing works in the valley have led to the route being slightly different and a little shorter than previous years, but it remains challenging and stunning.

The race is open to only those aged 18 and over on the day.

On the day entries will be allowed, subject to availability. No deferrals or refunds will be offered and there will be no waiting list operated this year. However, substitutions will be allowed up to the closing date of entries. This is a straightforward process, which entrants will administer themselves.

Free car parking is available at Dipton Jubilee Centre, Dipton Collierley Primary School (///icon.vibrating.rock) and Dipton Surgery (///enveloped.beast.afraid). Spaces are not unlimited so we would strongly encourage car sharing, wherever possible, to ensure minimal impact on local residents and any potential ill will for future events.

Numbers are to be collected at registration. The race has a cut-off of two and a half hours. Presentations will be made around 12pm. Medical support will be available, and water will be provided on the course.
