Come and discover one of County Durham's best hidden secrets.
A challenging 8 mile off road trail race hosted by Derwent Valley Trail Runners and taking place in the beautiful Derwent Valley, home to the famous Red Kite. The race starts from the Dipton Jubilee Centre (DH9 9DR), the course will be fully marked and you will be looked after by our super-friendly marshals. The terrain is a mixture of interesting trails, twisting and turning through ancient woodland, rocky underfoot in parts, with a small section of fast paths and including a stream crossing. A gpx file of the route will be available soon.
The route differs slightly from the previous event, due to logging and permissions, but remains challenging and stunning nonetheless.
This is not a walking event and may contain a few hills...
The race is open to those aged 18 and over only. There will be no entries on the day and no refunds will be offered, but substitutions will be allowed up to the closing date of entries. Due to the number of entries rolled from last year, only a small number are free, but there will be a waiting list to allocate any entries, which may become available for transfers. Numbers are to be collected from the Jubilee Centre at registration, which opens at 9am. Free car parking is available at Dipton Jubilee Centre, Collierly Primary School and Dipton Surgery. The race starts at 10am and presentations will be made at 12pm. Medical support will be available and refreshments will be provided on the course (around the half-way mark).
Refreshments will be available, after the race, at the Jubilee Centre.
Club Charity This year's race was originally due to be held in 2020, when the club agreed to support the Great North Air Ambulance Service. We will still be making a donation to them out of the entry fees. Some of you will recall that their services were called upon when one of our members, Alan Rippon, collapsed at a cross country event following a heart attack. Without them, and the paramedics who attended him beforehand, Alan's survival would have been very much in doubt.
