This is a 25 mile walking challenge starting from Elgin at 2pm. The walk goes west along the River Lossie & through Quarrelwood, then south to Torrieston Forest walks. From here it goes west over Heldon Hill to Califer viewpoint, then south to Rafford and then west to Dava Way and Forres. Then going around Forres to the Coastal Trail at Suenos Stone and onto Findhorn.
There will be a BBQ on the beach at Findhorn for partipants to enjoy at the end of the challenge walk from 'city to sea'. Unless you have made other arrangements, a minibus will transport you back to Forres, so please make sure you leave a car there on Saturday and get public transport to the start in Elgin. There are regular buses and trains between Forres and Elgin during the day.
This is not a led walk, so you must be able to navigate to the checkpoints, see in the dark and contact the organisers if need be, so please take:
The route will have way markers on difficult sections and a GPX file will also be available for download closer to the event. There will also be a tail end walker/sweeper wearing a hi-viz top, so if you need help with navigating the route you will need to walk at the back.
The walk to Forres is more or less the overnight section of the Laich o' Moray 50 mile Challenge event to be held in October, but will be in daylight, so a good opportunity for participants of that, to recce it.
