Wild swimming on Loch Ken has taken off in the last few years and Galloway Activity Centre (GAC) is proud to host our annual Loch Ken Wild Swim on 10th September in aid of Cash for Kids.  This event will run throughout the day with options to enter the 1km, 2km or 4km swims.  There will be an informal kids 100 metre swim running in the afternoon.

The clean, clear waters of Loch Ken are ideal for wild swimming. The water is SEPA tested and as part of the hydro electric scheme is regularly filled with fresh water from the Rhinns of Kells. The temperature is usually between 14-15 degrees Celcius and wetsuits are compulsory (£2.50 to hire a from GAC)

The centre works in partnership with Cash for Kids and swimmers can make an optional donation to this very worthy cause. We're also encouraging anyone taking part to try and raise extra money by asking for sponsorship. If this is of interest to anyone then please get in touch and we can get you a sponsorship form.

Entry fees include a hot drink and hot dog after the swim.

The likely programme of events is as follows:

  • 09:00 registration opens
  • 10:00 - 1km swim
  • 11:15 - 2km swim
  • 13:00 - kids splash session
  • 13:30 - 1km, 2km & kids prize giving
  • 13:45 - 4km swim
