The Brecon to Cardiff Ultra is a linear 70 kilometer race along the picturesque Taff Trail.  The race starts at 0800 on Sunday 20th February 2022 in Brecon and finishes at Coleg Y Cymoedd, Nantgarw.

The route is fully marked and runs through the Brecon Beacons National Park past mountains, rivers, reservoirs and woodland taking in some stunning views.  The first 30k of the route is almost exclusively on footpath or Forestry Trails. From Merthyr the route follows an off road cycle path all the way to the finish.  There is a drop bag facility which transports one drop bag from the start to the Merthyr Checkpoint (at approximately 32k) and then onwards to the finish, allowing access to a change of kit – particularly a change of trainers as the route moves from trail to tarmac for the second half.  Because it is fully marked it is very easy to navigate, making this an ideal race for beginners looking to complete their first ultra or for experienced runners to post a fast time.  A gps / gpx file is avaliable to download for use with any gps devices. The route is undulating, but features an early climb before generally heading downhill to the finish.

The route is easily accessed by road making it an excellent race for supporters who are able to follow the race as it travels south to the finish. There are several great locations where supporters congregate making a great atmosphere and support for the competitors!

Registration for the event takes place the night before and the morning of the race - in Nantgarw.  Coach transport is supplied for all competitors from race HQ at the finish to the start in Brecon on the morning of the event.  There are five checkpoints along the route supplying water, energy drinks, sweets, biscuits, fruit etc. to keep all the runners well supplied.  First aid cover for the event is supplied by CAVRA with 4 roaming offroad emergency ambulances.  All partcipants recieve a custom event Buff, and all finishers will receive a medal on completion, in addition there is an option to purchase a custom event t-shirt when you sign up.
