Hands up who wants to go racing?

OK, put them down again if you don't live in the Scottish Borders... Once Covid has made itself scarce we can get back to normal, but for now this is a locals only race. Your home address must be in the Scottish Borders region. Not near it or next to it - actually in it.

About the Local

The TweedLove Local Enduro is a one-day format with no practice (hey, you know the trails anyway since you're local), but the course, as usual, will be kept under wraps until the event. But you can expect a tough January day out on a mix of top stages. We'll be taking all the Covid precautions necessary, (more details below and in our follow up rider's notes). Rider places are strictly limited and only entries from people who live in the Scottish Borders are eligible.

Thanks to support from Borders company Cullen Kilshaw and support from elsewhere, we've kept the entry price down to £37 (normal enduro entrees are £55+).

Prizes and sponsorship from Smith Optics, Tempest Brewing Co and R&B Distillers.

Making it happen

It's taken a lot of discussion and the co-operation of several government agencies, local authorities and our kind sponsors to make this happen and we're super proud to be able to do it. The TweedLove team are also extremely grateful for the faith placed in us by all concerned - so let's show that the Borders and Tweed Valley can lead the way for safe enduro racing in Coronaworld.

With low entry prices and a Ben Nevis size pile of red tape and Covid protocols to deliver, we need your support. The event needs 150 local riders to cover costs, so go on, take the plunge and let's all have a locals day to remember. Don't want to race? Many helpers needed on the day too if you want to join the fun - get involved here. Big thanks to the local MTB community for your support and co-operation in demonstrating that we can run a safe show.

All the relevant info on how it's going to work will be emailed to riders over the next few weeks, and it's SO important that everyone sticks to the plan with distancing and event organisation etc.

  • Race is at Glentress to reduce potential impact on any town.
  • No cross-regional travel, no visitor overnight stays
  • Registration will be different, you'll have a set time to arrive, and a time to be on the start line.
  • Riders will remain distanced and start groups will be small.
  • There's no event village and no reason to congregate.
  • Results will be published ASAP after the event - there's no podium presentation.
  • Prizes will be delivered or collected.
  • Riders will have to be more self-supported than usual. Make sure you're up for, and prepared for, an enduro in early January.
  • There will be water available on course but we're looking at how energy products can be provided safely. There can't be a normal feed station with cake etc, sorry.
  • Timing is Sport Ident AIR system so riders don't have to touch anything apart from their own bike.
  • We've done extensive Covid Risk Assessments, rigorous event planning and have complied with all government Covid regulations and guidance. We ask everyone to follow all the  instructions and race rules.

If we have to cancel due to bad weather or snowbound trails, we'll reschedule for another date as soon as possible. Everyone will be kept in the loop by email.

Categories

This is a proper race but it has a strong community focus. We've changed and added to the standard enduro entry categories to reflect the diversity of committed riders in the Scottish Borders. We'll award the biggest prizes for the biggest race categories, but whoever you are, and whatever your age or what you ride, your name has an improved chance to shine when the results hit our screens after the race.

E-bikes are allowed and will be in separate categories, but there is not an E-bike specific course in the Local. We're all in this together... something you hear a lot these days.

Ages are based on rider's age on 31 December 2021.
