This weekend hosts the third and fourth scoring rounds for Seniors in the 2020 UK Elite Orienteering League and the first major post-lockdown race for many.

A middle distance on 3rd October afternoon on Rusland Beeches will be followed by a long on Graythwaite on 4th October morning. These are some of the Lakes toughest areas and we have employed planners Martin Bagness and Chris Heppenstall to maximise the challenge.

On each day there are Men’s and Women’s courses, winning time 30-35 minutes on Saturday, 90 and 75 minutes on Sunday. The startlist for the middle distance will be seeded and the results used to determine the startlist for the long distance. The start windows are 12.30-14.30 and 10-12.

Full and final details will be posted on ukeliteoleague.org.uk/2020-2/#LR

To see who is currently on the pre-selection list see here.

Entry system
There are 50 start slots on each course, 40 of which we have reserved for the intended elite audience and 10 for ‘travelling companions’.

As we are not sure how many entries we will get, any interested competitors should register onto the pre-selection list by midnight Sunday 13th September. If the number of entries exceeds the allowances then we will invite the limited number to enter based on past performance and support of Elite League. The target audience is MW21/35s followed by MW20s. If outside this age range you are welcome to register onto the pre-selection list but you may not be invited to enter if over-subscribed or likely to take too long.

Following competitor registration, we will send an email on 20th September or earlier inviting people to complete their entry by midnight 27th September.

Competitors in the target audience may have travelling companions who might wish to orienteer having travelled to the event. People who feel they fit this description are also welcome to register onto the pre-selection list by selecting the Travelling Companion Long or Short course. Note that Long is the Men’s course and Short is the Women’s each day so consider how long a course you want to run. Depending on overall numbers it is possible we may allocate more people to the Short course. Travelling companions will start first both days.

Coronavirus Precautions
The event it being organised under UK Government and British Orienteering guidance. Necessary social distancing and other Covid-19 related measures will be in force. Further details on the UK Elite League website.

Any competitor not obeying instructions concerning the Covid-19 pandemic will be liable for disqualification.
