LochNess360° Challenge
A new 3 day festival of running and cycling based around iconic Loch Ness on the new LochNess360ﹾ trail developed by linking the Great Glen Way on the north side of Loch Ness with the South Loch Ness Trail, completed in 2018, on the south side.
Approximately 90% of the trail is off road on a mixture of built trail, rough tracks and forest paths. Fantastic varied scenery, particularly on the South Loch Ness trail with superb views down on to Loch Ness.
The event offers participants the choice of:
The total ascent around the LochNess360ﹾ is over 3000m. Even the ‘easiest’ marathon has over 700 metres of ascent – to complete any of these events requires a high level of fitness
Marathon 1 - 28th May 2021
Starting from Dores the route will follow the South Loch Ness Trail up on to Drumashie Moor before dropping down to Cuillard Farm on the edge of Inverness. From here it heads in to Inverness and joins the Great Glen Way at Tomnahurich Bridge. It then follows the route of the Great Glen Way all the way to the finish at Drumnadrochit.
This marathon is the 'easiest' of the three but nevertheless should not be underestimated with over 770m of ascent and a high level of fitness is required.
Start: Dores – 9am
First cut off: Canal Crossing, Inverness – 12pm (3hrs)
Second cut off: Blackfold – 2:30pm (5.5hrs)
Finish: Tynchat, Drumnadrochit - 5pm latest
Distance: 26.2 miles (42km) / 770 metres
