Ultra Running Skills Break in the Alps | Guided Mini Break | Based out of Chamonix, France | Dates 6th to 9th July 2020 | £350

Chamonix - the Ultra Running capital of the world. What better place to train, prepare and hone your skills?

Join Mountain Run as we take you to the epicentre of Trail Running in Europe. Get a taste of what it’s like to run on some of the most famous trails in the world.

Join Mountain Run as we head to Chamonix for an immersive ultra running experience. We will focus on providing you with all the knowledge, skills and confidence you need to tackle your first ultra race or progress to bigger challenges outside of the UK. You will get the chance to run with coaches that have a wealth of ultra running experience in both the UK and Europe, as well as getting to grips with specific skills like running with poles and navigation.

Who's it for? 

Anyone who is:

  • looking to take their running to the next step
  • wants to broaden their running horizons
  • interested in racing in Europe and wants to learn more
  • thinking of doing an ultra and wants an opportunity to train in an incredible environment

What's included?

What's not included? 

  • Accommodation - We will be basing the weekend from La Folie Douce Hotel, Chamonix, and we highly recommend it as a place to stay. It offers both premium rooms and hostel dormitory style accommodation at reasonable prices - plus the terrasse has great views of Mont Blanc. Of course, there are plenty of other options for accommodation in Chamonix for every budget and we are happy to give recommendations (enquiries@mountainrun.co.uk).
  • Travel - there are regular flights to Geneva from most major UK airports. From Geneva it is a 1hr transfer to Chamonix. We recommend Mountain Drop Offsas a reliable and reasonably priced transfer provider (we offer a discount code).
  • Food - We recommend purchasing food in the local Super Marche
  • Travel and Medical Insurance (make sure your policy covers you for trail running up to altitudes of 2500m - the BMCprovide great options for this)

Course Program: 

Monday 6th July

  • 1400 - course welcome on La Folie Douce Hotel Terrasse, come ready to run! (please aim to arrive in Chamonix with enough time to get yourself settled into your accommodation before the course start)
  • 1500 - First run of the weekend. We will aim to be on the trails for around 2 hours. This will be a shake out run ad we will discuss your goals are for the next few days.
  • 1700 - Short strength and conditioning session followed by a workshop about gear and packing for an ultra event
  • 1800 - Free to explore Chamonix and try some of the local food and wine

Tuesday 7th July

  • 0900 - Meet on La Folie Douce Hotel Terrasse ready to run
  • 0930 - After a discussion about the days route we will head out into the mountains for around 3 to 4 hours. There will be plenty of time for coaching, photos and snack breaks along the way.
  • 1500 - After our run we will offer a workshop on sports nutrition with ideas and different products for you to try
  • 2030 - Night Run. Ulta running often involves periods of running at night so why not practice? We will head out for between 1 - 2 hours and discuss different head torch pros and cons and how to best deal with running through the night.

Wednesday 8th July

  • 0900 - Meet on La Folie Douce Hotel Terrasse ready to run. This is our ‘Long Run’. We will be out on the trails for up to 7 hours depending on conditions.
  • 1600 - We will get back into town with plenty of time to clean up and relax before dinner.
  • 2030 - Evening drinks at The Big Mountain Brewery (the best beer in town!). This is a great chance for you to ask any questions that have not yet been answered.

Thursday 9th July

  • 0900 - Meet on La Folie Douce Hotel Terrasse ready to run. To make sure that your legs (and lungs) get the full Chamonix experience we will head out onto the famous Vertical Kilometer (conditions dependant). The record for the 1000m over 3.8km stands at 34mins...how close can we get?
  • 1200 - course close and goodbyes
