We are very excited to be offering our very first long distance Trail Event on the Beautiful Black Mountains deep in the heart of the National parks.

This long distance challenge is one that will fulfil the elite and seasoned runner besides also offering amazing support for the less experienced trail runner who may be looking to step up a gear and attempt to challenge themselves with the knowledge that they will be receiving incredible support and checkpoints throughout the duration of the run. 

Support crews and supporters will be most welcome during the event.

What you can expect 

 Friday afternoon the Trail Events Team will welcome you to Race HQ – camping and parking will be available close to the start of the race. Registration and kit check will be available for an easier pre-race morning. For those unable to attend Friday please do not worry as a gentle start time of 9am will allow everyone a stress-free race morning. 

Both race distances will start together. This Trail Challenge is a self- navigation experience however we will be supporting certain areas that may lead to some confusion with our Traditional Signs alongside some added night time route markers…however every runner will be tracked by our team throughout the entire race. Family and friends will be able to monitor and support each and every one of you.

Each competitor will pass a stringent kit check during registration and at the main CP Zones on route …Mountain Rules set by the Local Mountain Rescue Team must be obeyed. 

There will be incredible support on your challenge as our aim is  to ensure that the experience is to inject confidence that the Trail Events Team will do everything to make this challenge, whether it’s your first attempt or not, an incredible experience which hopefully will inspire you to achieve and fulfil future goals and aspirations.

On route we will be supporting you with our traditional Check Points but to go that step further we will be providing Two Sleep and Eat Zones.

 (Sleep Zones for the longer distance) at these zones you will be supported by our staff who will be providing incredible support – you will we welcomed with hot homemade delicious food, all dietary needs catered for, hot and cold drinks and homemade cake.

Besides this there will be a chance for a hot shower, rest and change of clothes if needed (a drying room is available at one Sleep Zone) An inhouse medic and Sports Therapist will be on hand for any issues that may require attention. Both Zones will have a separate QUIET SLEEP ZONE and a dining area. Drop bags for both distances will be insitu and will be returned to HQ for the finish.

Support crews, friends and families are more than welcome to attend the Sleep and Eat Zones however we do ask that runners take president over all.

During the event you will also be supported by a full mobile medical unit, support runners will be on the course at various locations if needed for vital support – both experienced within this Mountain Range.

The routes

  • The 50 mile route will be one circular run with 2 Mini Checkpoints along side The main Sleep and Eat Zone – 1 medium drop bag
  • 50 miles = 20hrs approx

  • The 100 mile route will be a reverse of the first 50 miles with 7 Checkpoints Including 2 main Sleep and Eat Zones – 2 large drop bags- containing sleeping bag and mat if desired
  • 100 miles= 35hrs approx.

Food and drinks will be available at HQ at the finish

Cut off times will be available very soon along with route maps. Any runner who assists an injured participant will be rewarded with a time reward.

Besides all this incredible support you will be awarded with our bespoke Medal, a unique T Shirt and Buff to wear with pride.

Brief route outline

Starting at Perth y Pia Llanbedr the route takes you straight up to the Black Mountain ridge- descending into the valley to climb Mc Namaras pass back to scale the summit of Waun Fach. Leaving this behind you then follow the ridge to Lord Herefords Knob before heading back down to your first Checkpoint at the base of Hay Bluff … refuelled you once again climb back over The Offas Dyke Path and head towards the stunning Cast Back Ridge which leads you into the Olchen Valley and your next Eat and Sleep Zone based in Longtown …when re-energised  you will take once again take on the ridge to drop down onto the breath taking Abbey of Llantony…following the Beacons Way you will then head over Hattteral Hill and descend to another Checkpoint close to the prominent Sugar Loaf Mountain …heading up and over the summit you will begin your final assault on the Mountains, a more gentle climb awaits you before your last vicious hill, glorious to the finish ( 50 miles) …after recovering with amazing hot food, showers and rest you turn around and face the mountains once again in a reverse loop to complete the 100 miles.
