Keep an eye on final details at

Planner’s comments:

We have a full range of courses planned from White to Green at Clash Wood.  There is even a Short Green for those who want the navigational challenge of a TD5 with a bit less of the leg-work.

Some of the paths used for the white and yellow courses are narrow and winding which makes for an interesting course, but keep your eyes open for the path junctions, and watch out for tree roots.  (Unfortunately, the paths in this wood are not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs).

The map has been recently updated and now shows the notorious areas of wind-blown trees in the western part of the wood (shown as dense undergrowth - tight green hatching).  All of the courses have been planned to avoid these areas of wind-fall, so even the TD5’s should be able to enjoy a reasonably unhindered run (depending on your route choice of course!)

Runners on the light green and green courses might well encounter a deep dry ditch.  Knotted ropes will be fixed at the most obvious crossing point to help you scramble in and out of the ditch, alternatively you can follow the ditch to the North West where it becomes shallower and easier to cross.  (The other courses, including the short green, all avoid this ditch).

Map:   1:10,000 for Orange to Green courses, and 1:5000 for White and Yellow.

Contour interval 5m.

Directions / Parking:

Leaving Muir of Ord – go over the railway bridge and turn immediately left onto the A832 heading west towards Glen Ord Distillery Centre and Contin. After 1.2 miles on the left is Clash Woods (orienteering signed here) Grid ref: NH512515.

DO NOT PARK IN THIS FORESTRY CAR PARK. Go through the open gate and follow the track through the wood from this car park for less than a 1km, where parking will be along the track. There is plenty of space down the side of the track if you tuck in. Please don’t try and overtake – you will need to park behind each vehicle on the same side of the road. A one-way system will be in operation here.

Registration/download will be in club tent at end of parking area.

Start and Finish:

Both will be only 200 – 300m from parking/registration.
