At 15 miles with 4000' ascent/descent (24km/1220m) over some very varied terrain, Castle Carr is a testing race. It was used as a national championship counter in 2017.

Minimum age 18. Prizes awarded for U21 and U23 as well as all 10-year categories.

The route is only partly flagged - entrants must be capable of finding their way between checkpoints.

Entry limit: 200.

Starting and finishing at the Hare & Hounds in Old Town above Hebden Bridge, the race passes through the idyllic Castle Carr estate, does a full circuit of the moors around it, dropping into local woods on the slopes above Mytholmroyd, and then crosses back through the estate to the finish.

The section through the Castle Carr estate is private property so cannot be recce'd. There is a suggested recce route on the race webpage (http://www.cvfr.co.uk/races/castle-carr/) that skirts around the private section of the route. See also the race facebook page for more details: https://www.facebook.com/castlecarrrace/.

The main start is at 11am. There will be an early start at 10:30 for anyone who expects to be in the back 20% of the field.
