Race starts at 7.30pm.

Very limited parking at race start . Please car share, or cycle to the start. Or consider driving over a bit earlier, and parking near the top of Balerno village , and running the last mile up the single track road as a warm-up.

All runners must be over 18 years old.

The 2018 route is the same as for 2017.

The route is 10.5km  (with 350m of climb) and goes over West and East Kip.

The route is not marked, and there will be minimal marshalls - all runners are expected to be self-reliant and carry a compass and full-body waterproof (top and bottoms)  to keep them warm if they get injured.

All runners should study the map in advance, and if you haven't done the route before carry map and compass so you don't get lost. A runner got lost in 2014 and descended down the wrong side of the Pentlands to Carlops - this was the wrong way!! The route is a loop starting and finishing at the same spot at the Red Moss Car park.

Bottle of beer for any finisher who beats or equals their age in minutes.
Men's race record is 41:02 and Womens race records is 48:31 - so a good target for all Vets!!

Pre-enter via SiEntries (from Mon 4th June), or cycle to the race for free entry on the night.
Fast running on tracks and footpaths, with two climbs up the Kips.
Free soup in the Grey Horse Inn , Balerno after the race
Race entry limited to 80 - due to parking restrictions and landowner request - please car share.

The race will start from Red Moss car park, go along the gently climbing road (locally known as the Agony of Trees!), turn right and then left at top of road ,  then take the usual path towards the drove road (passing the turn-off to Hare Hill and instead continuing to the Kips), up West Kip , over East Kip , then turn sharp left at the col to follow the path back towards Lovers Loup and the Howe,   then from the bottom of the glen turn left (north-east) to follow the foot-path through Green Cleuch,  and return by the path, to the road at Bavelaw Castle and back to the Red moss car park.

New race route map on Strava:

Reminder that there is limited car parking at Red Moss car park, please car share or use public transport, pre-entry via sientries with race numbers limited to 80.

[but there is still Free race entry on the day for anyone who cycles to the start! Ok this is blatant favouritism to cyclists, but it is the Edinburgh Festival of Cycling  and cycling to the start is the best way to warm-up!]
