Buttermere Sailbeck is a classic tough, rough fell race! It packs in over 4000ft of climbing into just over 9 miles, there are steep rocky climbs and descents, and some short sections with steep drops to the sides of lofty ridges, so it is not for the faint hearted, and a recce is highly worthwhile!
Starting from Buttermere Village, the route climbs onto Knott Rigg before traversing the ridgeline of Ard Crags and dropping down into Rigg Beck. A brutal climb back up onto Causey Pike leads to a stunning and airy run across Scar Crags to Sail and Crag Hill. From here, the descent begins over Whiteless Pike and all the way back into Buttermere – a long and exhilarating descent! This is a hardcore race. Please - only enter this race if you are sufficiently competent and capable to complete the course safely.
Parking is in a designated race parking field (access to RHS of Buttermere Court Hotel), please follow event parking signs. £5 per car, cash only. Please car share or use a bus/bike. All runners must park in the event field, not the village.
**Entry limit 150. Entries close Friday 12th June 22:00. Entry on day £20 only if entry limit not reached (we will try to set up contactless card payment, but cannot guarantee it will work, as been unable to test it this year, so bring correct cash if entering on day)**
Teams allowed - Men (3); Women (3)
Start time 11:00
Challenging course unsuitable for novices. Limited public toilets in village.
Please be considerate to local businesses and other non-fell running visitors. It is quite a busy village in the summer, and you'll need to cross the B5289 road to get between the registration (by Croft House Farm cafe) and the race start/finish (opposite and slightly north of the Bridge Hotel). There are no other roads on the route.
