A 31-mile trail run over undulating countryside paths and trails in the Amber Valley, Derbyshire, close to the eastern edge of the Peak District. Don’t fancy an ultra? There's also the option of the Petit Raid - the Northern Loop of the Amberaid, which offers 20 miles of quality trails, hills, and views.
Starting at Ashover Village Hall, the 31 mile route scribes a figure of 8 through the rural splendour of the Amber Valley. Highlights aplenty will greet you on your way. There are punchy climbs and engaging descents, expansive views and some of the most pleasant woodland trails you’ll find anywhere in the UK.
The route is largely unmarked although we do mark out a couple of the trickier navigation sections. We provide route notes and gpx files for you to download. Additionally you may wish to bring your own paper map as back up and to aid with navigation.
Registration: 8am to 8.45am at Ashover Village Hall, Milken Lane, Ashover S45 0BA. Free parking.
Event start: 9am; event finish: 6pm.
Time limit: 9 hours. Runners on the Amberaid route must have left CP2 by 12.30pm. If you arrive later than 12.30pm, you will be redirected onto the Petit Raid route.
Checkpoints. Every checkpoint has water and checkpoints 1, 2 and 4 have food too (both sweet and savoury).
CP1 – Tupton, 7 miles (both routes)
CP2 – Wessington, 13.5 miles (both routes)
CP3 – Fritchley, 20 miles (Amberaid route only)
CP4 – Wessington, 25.5 miles (Amberaid route only)
Every finisher receives a medal. Prizes for first M / F in each race. Light refreshments at the finish.
There is medic cover out on the course and at the race HQ.
