Rough pasture and open fellsides, generally very runnable with some areas of heather and gorse. Longer courses have a short section in a mature conifer plantation. In some areas there are more complex sections of depressions and spoil heaps from 19th century iron ore workings

Usual range of Cumbrian Galoppen courses, Yellow to Brown including Very Short Green and Short Green.
Yellow 2.0 km - 70m climb
Orange 2.9 km - 80m climb
Light Green 3.3km - 125m climb
Very Short Green 2.9km - 125m climb
Short Green 3.6km - 160m climb
Green 4.4km - 160m climb
Blue 6.6km - 175m climb
Brown 8.8 km 200m climb
Map scale is 1:10,000 for Brown and Blue and 1:7,500 for the other courses
Starts 10.30 – 12.30. Courses close at 2.30pm.
The start is 1000m 50m climb from the car parking /assembly field. Finish is adjacent to assembly

Safety: A whistle must be carried by all competitors. As it’s October and you could be 500m ASL on an exposed fellside cagoules may be compulsory. Please bring one to the event and be prepared to wear or carry it. There will be a sign in Assembly indicating if they are compulsory. Full leg cover is not mandatory, but consider the weather on the day.
