Race Director - Charles Sproson

A semi technical 15k trail race around the base of Place Fell on the shores of Ullswater. This tough but attainable trail race is a great intro in to our more technical races and is part of the Helvellyn Sky Ultra weekend.

We are excited to be offering this tough but beautiful 15km trail race in the Ullswater Valley as part of the Rab Helvellyn Sky Ultra weekend.

We have adjusted the start time to later in the day, so partners can each run a race and hand the kids over!

15km Valley Route | 680m of ascent | 18 July 2026 | Location: Patterdale | £40.00

What you get:

  • 15km of fully marked trails and footpaths
  • Aid station mid-way
  • Manned checkpoints
  • Recycled Paper Mache Wild Flower Seed Bomb Medal
  • Professional Events Team delivering the race
  • An awesome race around the base of Place Fell, on the shores of Ullswater.
  • The chance to run in a UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Race Route:

Starting in the King George Playing Field after all other sky races have set off, giving you beautiful views of the Ullswater and Boredale Valley's all the way round.

A fast start over fields and mildly technical trails, a quick road section delivers you to the first timing checkpoint and the start of the circumnavigation of Place Fell in an anti-clockwise direction. Once past the first CP a technical trail and easy ascent take you past Silver Crag and directly down a stepped path to Silver Bay, from here its not far until you reach the Feed & Water Station, CP2. Leaving Ullswater behind for a while the route curves round into Boredale and joins a tarmac road for a short while before the trail continues and starts to rise steeply to Boredale Hause [CP4] and awesome views of Kirkstone Pass and its surrounding fells.

Now get ready for the descent from Boredale Hause, fast and semi technical. At its foot you will go back through CP1, being CP5 this time and retrace your steps into the finish at the events centre.
