Known for her love of running manically along the trails for hours on end, these were some of Mena’s favourite routes – the places where she had most fun.
Now linked together in an anti-clockwise circular route, The Trails of Mena give you a combination of track, maintained trail, field and woodland and of course a healthy smattering of ups and downs just so you don’t get too complacent on the flat bits. That said, this will be one of our more runnable events! The course will be lightly marked with arrows at major junctions and on course navigation benefits further from the gpx files made available for both races.
Starting a short walk away from race HQ at North Wingfield Community Resource Centre, the race heads out via the 5 Pits Trail to Pilsley and Tibshelf before heading east towards Teversal and on to Rowthorne in the shadow of Hardwick Hall. We don't actually enter the Hardwick grounds, instead we skirt the surrounding woodland before crossing the M1 and the farmland of Sutton Scarsdale and Sutton Springs Wood before rejoining the 5 Pits Trail all the way back to the finish.
Registration: 8am – 8.45am at North Wingfield Community Resource Centre, Whiteleas Avenue, North Wingfield, S42 5PW. Free car parking is available at the centre and on the adjoining estate roads.
Event start: 9am; event finish: 4pm.
Time limit: 7hours
Checkpoints: there will be two checkpoints on the 20mile route and three checkpoints on the marathon route. All checkpoints will provide drinks and food (both sweet and savoury).
CP1: Teversal, 8 miles
CP2: Sutton Scarsdale, 15.5 miles
CP3: Sutton Scarsdale, 21.5 miles (marathon only)
Every finisher receives a medal. Prizes for first M / F in each race. Light refreshments at the finish.
There is medic cover out on the course and at the race HQ.
This is the second edition of the event named after our dog Mena who we sadly lost in July 24. She had a brilliant life with us and the love went both ways. In her memory, a donation from the race will be made to Spaniel Aid UK to enable other deserving spaniels to enjoy the same brilliant life.
Dogs on the event? Despite the sentiment behind the race, the current permit means we are not insured to allow dogs on the event. Sorry.
