A Coventry Way Challenge

“A Coventry Way” is an officially recognised long distance path, which circumnavigates the city of Coventry (as shown on Ordnance Survey maps). However, due to HS2 construction and other issues, some deviations to the definitive route have to be made each year. So this year it is 41.4 miles long. The majority of the route is off-road, and passes through mainly agricultural land in Warwickshire and Solihull. The Challenge is held annually and the aim is to complete the whole circular route in a day (effectively 16 hours). It is open to individual walkers and runners, as well as relay teams of up to 6 members (not 8 as previous years). From this year ALL relay team members' details need to be entered. Relay changeovers should take place at a checkpoint. There are 5 reasonably evenly spaced checkpoints on the route, providing food, drinks (you MUST bring your own mug) and encouragement! All entrants are provided with a hot meal at the finish.
The Start and Finish for this year is again at the Heart of England Social Club, Berkswell Road, Meriden, CV7 7LB (GR: SP 245 819)
- Registration is from 05:00. Upon registering you will be allocated your entrant number in the form of a laminated card. You must present this to the tracker issuing station to obtain your tracker, to the Starter to trigger your start time and at each checkpoint and the finish, where your time will be recorded.
- Walkers (whether individual or relay) may start at any time after 05:00, but MUST start before 07:00.
- Runners (whether individual or relays) MUST NOT start before 07:00, but MUST start before 09:00. Runners are requested not to register before 06:30, to allow walkers to get away unhindered.
- However, please note the opening and closing times of the checkpoints below and plan your start so as to reach each checkpoint whilst it is open.
- Crackley Lane lay-by (7.9 miles, GR - SP 287 742) 07:00 to 10:45
- Bubbenhall (15.9 miles, GR - SP 363 727) 09:00 to 12:30
- Brinklow (23.5 miles, GR - SP 435 794) 10:30 to 14:45
- Barnacle Village Hall (29.0 miles, GR - SP 388 846) 11:30 to 16:30
- Breach Oak Lane (35.0 miles, GR - SP 308 870) 12:30 to 18:30
The Finish closes at 21:00.
- Each entrant will be issued with a tracker (one per relay team), which MUST be handed in at the finish, or at a checkpoint if retiring earlier.
- Challenge entries are limited to 250.
- Entries will close on 13th March 2026, or WHEN THE LIMIT IS REACHED.
- The 40 page 'Map & Route Description Booklet' - the "Green Book" will NOT be available this year. If you are unable to access the website for route details please let us know.
- Final details will be sent by early April.
