Welcome to the WCOC Cumbrian Galoppen at Honister and High Doat.
The car park and event centre is at Honister Slate Mine. There will be a parking charge of £4 per vehicle payable in advance.
Yellow, orange and light green courses are entirely on High Doat. This is almost entirely open fell with typical Lakeland contour and rock details. It is divided into a number of sections by uncrossable walls.
Short green, green and blue are entirely on Seatoller Fell (with brown using High Doat as well). This is generally runnable open fell, sloping down towards Honister Combe with significant crags and rock features in places.
The usual range of Galoppen courses will be available from Yellow to Brown.
Brown, 7.5km, 100m climb
Blue, 5.7km, 270m climb
Green, 4.1km, 160m climb
Short green, 3.1km, 120m climb
Light green, 3.2km, 200m climb
Orange, 2.3km, 120m climb
Yellow, 2.1km, 100m climb
Due to the nature of the area there will be 2 starts and 2 finishes, as the terrain near the event centre is unsuitable for the less technical courses. This means that the start and finish for the light green, orange and yellow courses, and the start for the brown course, is 1.7km from the car park. We are hoping to provide a shuttle service for orange and yellow course competitors, and any very elderly competitors on the light green course, to and from a point around 600m from the start/finish. We have still to assess the practicality of this and will confirm in the final details.
