Welcome to the first LOC Cumbrian Galoppen & UKOL Event in 2024 on Loughrigg. The usual Galoppen courses will be available – Brown, Blue, Green, Short Green, Very Short Green, Light Green, Orange and Yellow.

The area has been used for multiple events in the past, it is a typical Lakeland open fell with detailed contour and rock formations.  The area is heavily used by the public so there are a number of well trodden paths on the map, however runners will also encounter smaller trods not marked on the map.  The map has been updated in 2020 by Martin Bagness, given the time of year the water features may be more distinctive.

Please see below the UKOL course/class mapping, if you'd like to receive points for the UKOL league, please enter the relevant course for your age class.

Course Men's Classes Women's Classes
Brown M20/M21/M35/M40 W21
Blue M16/M18/M45/M50/M55/M60 W18/W20/W35/W40
Green M65/M70 W16/W45/W50/W55/W60
Short Green M75/M80 W65/W70
Very Short Green M85/M90 W75/W80/W85/W90

Unsure which course to enter? The longer courses (Short Green to Brown) will be technical courses designed for experienced orienteers (i.e. not for beginners!). The yellow course is the easiest at this event, suitable for beginners and older children. The Orange course is a bit harder and will tempt you off the beaten track slightly. Light Green is a bit harder again.

We encourage running in pairs – it is good way to start orienteering. To do this, enter the event using one person’s name (the junior in a junior+adult pair, or one adult of an adult pair) and please add the names of everyone accompanying in the ‘Additional names and ages’ box when you enter. You can request extra maps, if required.

The details are available on the LOC website at ‘Events | Lakeland Orienteering Club (lakeland-orienteering.org.uk)’.

Everyone who attends must follow the ‘Participation Codes of Conduct’ which can be found at the British Orienteering website.
