Black Combe is tough late-winter race with two good ups, two good downs and usually some interesting weather in between. The final descent is one of the best of the year and there’s a pie and a brew in the village hall afterwards.
Silecroft railway station is very convenient for registration.
There are prizes for new records and for the fastest descent from south summit to finish. This is the first race in the Pete Bland Lakes Grand Prix (and thanks to PBS sponsorship, the prizes are not bad). It’s also the first counter for the Bob Grieve trophies, awarded to the fastest man and woman (combined time) across Black Combe, Caw, Dunnerdale and Kirkby Moor.
The race will not be cancelled for snow or ice on the fells, but if the valley is blocked we might have to postpone. Please see the creaky old race website (sorry) for last minute information.
