Bylaugh Wood and Bawdeswell Heath are separated by the B1147 Road that runs East/ West between them. Each has distinctive characteristics as detailed below.
Bylaugh Wood is approximately 68 hectares in area and is situated to the North of Bylaugh Hall. Access/ egress to the start and finish points is made using a single designated path (250m) that crosses open farmland. The wood is very runnable - largely open and flat, but some vegetation persists. Large areas of Rhododendrons are located through the central region of the wood and a path network covers most of the area. The North side of the wood adjacent to the B1147 becomes more contoured as it descends toward the road.
Bawdeswell Heath is smaller in area – 19 hectares approx., more contoured, and features an extensive path network and many small knolls, depressions, and pits. There is a stream running parallel to the B1147 - East/ West and, dependent upon previous rainfall, seasonal marsh.
The area was remapped in Spring 2023 by Peel Land Surveys.
Closing date for entries is 23:59 on Monday 5th February 2024. Limited entry on the day subject to map availability.
