You are invited to come Orienteering at a Score event at Falkland Estate, near Glenrothes in Fife.
A Score event comprises many controls scattered around the event area, each assigned a number of points (a score). Participants are tasked with collecting as many points as possible by visiting as many controls as you can within the time limit. Control sites are usually a bit easier to find on a score event. However, some will be a bit more tricky and/or further away from the start and therefore reward you with more points. There is no fixed route. You are free to choose your own controls and route between them. The challenge with a score event is to make good and quick decisions according to your ability, and to manage your time optimally.
The “catch” is that points will be deducted for every minute beyond your allocated time.
There are two courses on offer:
Long = 70 mins
Short = 40 mins
No controls will be placed on the lower slopes of East Lomond hill, south of the road to Craigmead car park.
Event assembly will be at Falkland Cricket Club just along from the Falkland Estate Stables, west of the town. Parking is on a gentle slope, adjacent to the cricket pitch. We will use the pavilion for toilets and registration.
The start/finish is a short, flat, 5 minute walk away.
The Start window is between 11am – 12:30 pm.
Vehicular access to the event is via Pillars of Hercules on the A912, KY15 7AD. It is 6 miles NW of Glenrothes
There is a £1 car parking charge which will be passed on to the Cricket Club for the use of their facilities.
There are picnic tables at the cricket club and two coffee shops; one at the Falkland Estate (The Stables) which is 2 mins walk away and the other at Pillars of Hercules Organic Farm which is 10 mins walk.
