Come celebrate 80 years of DMWS' life-changing support for our military, police, and NHS frontline staff on September 9th 2023 with our Epic Ultra 80km Event. All Funds raised will be used to support our free welfare support to anyone who has committed their lives to serve their community and country, including Armed Forces personnel, reservists, veterans and their families, police officers, and other frontline services.

Sign up to run or walk and if you can donate or become a fundraiser yourself that would be amazing. Any donation, no matter how large or small, is greatly appreciated! Find us on Just Giving - St John and Red Cross Defence Medical Welfare Service.

There are three route options

  1. Raughton Head CE Primary School Cumbria
  2. Redenham Park in Andover
  3. Your own location -virtual option

For our set routes there will be a 5 mile loop – push yourself to complete as many as you can up  to 80km (50 miles) in 12 hours. Or choose to do between 5-20 miles if you prefer.  At these two sites we will have bag drop, water, toilets, snacks and some games for young supporters. Each are small rural locations so we will have a family fun atmosphere and a kind respects for locals and the land around.

All Funds raised will be used to support our free service enabling us to provide welfare support to anyone who has committed their lives to serve their community and country.

DMWS provide medical welfare support to the Armed Forces Community (serving, reservists and veterans), NHS and Police. This compassionate, professional service will tackle non-clinical issues that cause poor physical and mental wellbeing, delay discharge from hospital and can cause unnecessary readmission to hospital.

This includes stress and anxiety, social isolation and loneliness, housing issues or homelessness, financial issues, substance abuse, and mental health issues including depression, thoughts of taking ones own life, PTSD, and dementia.

“I am very grateful for the support I have had from this service; I don't know how I would have managed to support my son, who served as a Marine in Afghanistan, without DMWS…

“At work we have been so affected by the nursing strike and I felt helpless and needed someone to talk to before I reached breaking point the DMWS Welfare Officer supported me and let me vent my feelings and gave me coping mechanisms and advice for future times of stress. I don’t know what I’d of done without DMWSs support today.”

“I can’t express how wonderful it was to have a friendly face come and visit me whilst I was laid up in the hospital bed. They gave me confidence that should I be required to have an extended stay in hospital that my family could be supported and cared for.” - DMWS Beneficiary.

Help us help more of our amazing front line staff.

Thank you, I think you’ve just saved my life.” - Veteran
