|
Trail racing that will take you away from the comfort of urban gravel tracks and into the heart of the glorious landscapes, nature and heritage that we have here in the North East of England.
The race route takes in The North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and UNESCO Global Geopark describes as “a stunning landscape of open heather moors, dramatic dales, tumbling upland rivers, wonderful woods, close knit communities, glorious waterfalls, fantastic birds, colourful hay meadows, stone-built villages, intriguing imprints of a mining and industrial past” The area has many distinctive geology, landscape and flora features, significant archaeology and supports important biodiversity in a range of key habitats.
The event will start at 11am, centre-stage in the main show ring, before heading up a steep gravel track past Pennypie House (on the Pennine Journey trail) and onto the moors. From the top of the climb, you will cross the trail heading for Slaley Forest, where the two courses split the half will meander up and down some of the forest’s undulating tracks before popping back out onto the moors. Finally, you pick up The Carriers’ Way that will take you back to Blanchland. The 10 k route briefly visits the outscirts of the forest before picking up the carriers way and heading for home.

Other Information
We are an eco-friendly company, and on that basis, we don’t use disposable plastic cups and don’t offer T shirts as standard – many go to waste after events. As with all of our races we will be collecting pre-loved running kit so that we can pass it all onto an up-cycling scheme which we are supporting. We are actively encouraging participants to give something back to the environment which is why your race goodies are a little bit different. We are including a packet of mixed wildflower seeds for you to plant which will encourage bees and other pollinators to visit your garden and are great for the environment.
