Open to people aged 16yrs and over. Anyone under the age of 18yrs must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Please do not park in Askrigg village, event parking is available a little way along the road between Askrigg and Bainbridge. Park as directed by the Marshalls.

This is a winter challenge event, it is strongly recommended that each entrant carry: Map - OS Outdoor Leisure Sheet 30 ; whistle; compass; waterproof jacket and over-trousers; first-aid kit; survival bag or blanket; torch, emergency rations and MUG.

Part of the challenge is to navigate the route using public rights of way; there is no route description. The Checkpoints are:

  • CP7     GR012888 - Freeholder's Wood (refreshments)
  • CP8     GR037906 - Low Thoresby (self-clip)
  • CP9     GR033918 - Castle Bolton car park   ( Refreshments now at Carperby )
  • CP10   GR009899 - Carperby Village Institute (Refreshments) New for 2022
  • Via       Permissive path GR 007905
  • Via       GR 994902 - Rejoin original route to Heugh
  • CP11   GR963917 - Heugh.
  • Finish  GR948909 - Askrigg Village Hall (hot food with veggie option and drinks)

 Please observe the following rules (they are for your safety and enjoyment of the event)

  1. Retire at roadside checkpoints only.  Transport will be provided back to the start.
  2. Entrants will not be allowed to continue if, in the opinion of the Checkpoint Officer or Sweeper, they are unfit to do so.
  3. Visit all checkpoints.  Anyone without a fully clipped tally at the finish will be disqualified.
  4. Cross walls and fences at stiles and gates; close gates; follow way marks.  PLEASE OBSERVE THE COUNTRY CODE.
  5. The organiser's decision is final; they cannot accept responsibility for any injury or loss during the event.
  6. NO DOGS are allowed on this event.
