Race Director - Andy Williams

Road half marathon course taking in a loop of central Truro, and running out to Porth Kea, Playing Place and Cowlands. Involves a few hills - it's probably not a PB course!  Start time 9.30am from Lemon Quay.

Sponsored by Goundrys Estate Agents, and by Spar - we're very grateful for their support.

ENTRIES ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED BUT WILL REOPEN FOR ON-THE-DAY ENTRANTS BETWEEN 6AM AND 8.30AM ON SUNDAY MORNING  YOU'LL STILL NEED TO SIGN UP VIA SIENTRIES ON YOUR PHONE.

This is part of the Cornwall GP series 2022 - but all are very welcome to run it whether you've done any of the other races or not.  Here's a map of the route: https://www.trurorunningclub.org.uk/maps/trurohalf/map-trurohalfmarathon.html

No refunds are offered (unless we cancel it of course) but places can be transferred (without charge) via the SiEntries system, up to 2359 on 17 September (please advertise any spare places on the facebook page https://www.facebook.com/trurohalfmarathon).

The race is chip timed, although race results will be based on gun time. There will be team prizes based on the first six runners home from each affiliated club. The race is run under ARC permit ARC22/328 and UKA licence 2022-43604 and is covered by both ARC's and UKA's insurance.

We are sorting wooden medals and cotton T-shirts for each runner, as well as a goody bag. In order to avoid waste we want to put in an exact order for T shirts. If you sign up at least 3 weeks before the event you'll get your T shirt on the day. You'll still get a T shirt if you sign up later, but it will be later on.  If you don't want a T shirt, that's fine, you can have a £2.50 discount if you prefer.

In order to be as sustainable as possible please bring your own reuseable race cups if you have them.

NOTE ABOUT T - SHIRT SIZES: you'll be asked to select your T-shirt size when you enter. Men's sizes are normal - choose what you normally choose. Women's sizes seem to come up small - for example if you're normally size 8-10 you're better off with size M than size S.  So choose accordingly!

FAQS

What time does the race start?
It starts at 9.30. You can register and pick up your number from 8am onwards - race HQ is at Wetherspoons on Lemon Quay, Truro.  On-the-day-entrants can get their bibs from 8.45.

Can I have a refund if I can't run?
You can't have a refund, but you can defer for one year if the race happens in 2023 (up to 4 September - no deferrals after that as your T-shirt will already have been ordered). If you prefer you can sell your place to a friend - you can transfer it to them by logging into your SiEntries account. There's no charge for that but you have to sort out the money between the two of you. Please don’t email us about it as we can't transfer it for you, you have to do it yourself via logging in to your own SiEntries account. Please only email us if you want to defer to 2023 (assuming the race happens in 2023 of course - still no refunds if it doesn't).

What do I get afterwards?
At the finish line there will be fruit, water, some chocolate, a medal, and also a T-shirt for you, in the size you ordered - as long as you placed your order by 4 September at the latest. You can still have a T-shirt if you entered after 4 September, but we'll order it for you afterwards and you'll have to either arrange a time to come and pick it up from us or arrange postage. We're doing it this way because we are keen to be as sustainable as possible and we don’t want to have to over-order hundreds of unwanted T-shirts just in case we get big numbers on the day.

It's after 4 September and I'm about to enter - what happens about my T-shirt?
There won't be a T-shirt available for you on the day as the order will have already gone in. You can EITHER choose to have a discounted race entry and no T-shirt (£2.50 off) OR you can pay the extra £2.50 and make arrangements to collect it from us afterwards. We'll place an order after the event, so it will be a few weeks before they are available to pick up. Give us an SSAE with you on the day if you want, and we'll put it in the post for you afterwards!

In the end I couldn't make the race, but I still want my T-shirt - what can I do?
Please contact us. You can either come and collect it from 18 The Parade, Truro TR1 1QE or we can send it to you if you send an SSAE.

Is there a time cut off?
Not formally, as we want the event to be as inclusive as possible, it's definitely not just for club runners. At the same time, please bear in mind our marshals are all volunteers and it would be kind not to make them wait around for hours! As a guide, in the past few years the last finisher has come in between 2hrs 45mins and 3hrs 15mins (that's 15 minutes per mile pace, which is not much quicker than brisk walking pace).

Will there be water stations on the course?
Yes there will be several. If you have your own reuseable race cups please do bring them with you.

Is there a bag drop?
Yes there wiill be, at the entrance to the Pannier Market on Lemon Quay. It won't be locked up though so itis used at your own risk.

What are you doing to be sustainable
Quite a bit! We're going through quite a bit of faff to make sure we don’t end up with a load of unwanted T-shirts (see other Qs). Your medal will be made of wood. We've turned down a kind offer from our sponsors of a water bottle for every finisher. The cups at the water tables will be paper (or recycled plastic that we bought years ago and need to use up).

Is the course marshalled or might I get lost?
You'll have to try hard to get lost! The course is fully signposted and there will be at least 49 marshals supporting you on the day at various points.

Are there road closures?
The first loop around the city centre, and the finish, are on closed roads. Most of the course is on open - but quiet - rural roads.

Where can I park
There is plenty of parking in and around Truro City Centre - just watch out for all the roads that are closed due to the half marathon! But most car parks are within 5 minutes' walk of Race HQ anyway.
