Come and explore Birmingham's hidden network of canals. Both 26 and also 18 mile courses start and finish from  Moseley Rugby Club, Billesley Common, Yardley Wood Road Birmingham B13 0TP grid ref SP088812 on  Sunday 14th August

The main course includes the  Cole Valley Way,  Grand Union Canal, Fazeley Canal, Wolverhampton Main Line, Soho Loop  and Birmingham Worcester Canal before returning to Moseley Rugby Club via the Stratford Canal.  It Passes Sarehole Mill (inspiration to Tolkien's Middle Earth), under the dark bowels of "Spaghetti Juction", Mathew Boultons Soho Manufactory, Gas Street Basin - home of the International Convention Centre and  award winning Brindley Place development - Cadbury's famous Bournville Village and Kings Norton's Guillotine Lock.

The 18 mile route again takes in the Cole Valley Way passing Sarehole Mill, the the Grand Union Canal, Fazeley Canal, Birmingham Worcester Canal and returns to the Rugby Club via the Stratford on Avon Canal. Both route involves crossing very few roads, no stiles and probably the least ascent and descent you will do this year !!

Birmingham they say has more miles of canals than Venice. These fueled the industrial revolution. Most are now quiet backwaters linear arms of the country that penetrate deep into the city, don't be surprised if you see foxes and herons. Never dull the backdrop varies from rural to industrial heritage and then to full on state of the art development.

There are 5 checkpoints on the Canter and 3 on the Mini-Canter which will include food and drink - Look out for the Cake Stop and help us judge the Canal Canter Cake Competition (now open to entrants as well as marshals- make sure your cake is labelled) Please note it is essential to bring a mug as cups will not be provided at the checkpoints. There will be hot drinks and a meal at the finish including a vegetarian/vegan option

All finishers requiring a certificate will receive one. Routes descriptions and GPX files will be sent out shortly before the event. In addition this year will be planting a tree for each entrant with Birmingham Trees For Life.
