We're delighted to announce the second Loch Ken 10Km Wild Swim. This is the 9th year of our annual charity Wild Swimming weekend and in addition to our other events, we are introducing a challenging swim between the Galloway Activity Centre and Crossmichael.

For those new to the area, Loch Ken is a narrow stretch of clean, open water well loved by wild swimmers. As part of the Hydo-Electric scheme, the Loch is regularly filled with fresh water from the Rhinns of Kells and is SEPA tested shortly before the swim. It's known to be some of the cleanest water in Scotland and is a beautiful location for wild swimming. The water is usually around 14 degrees Celsius at this time of year but could be colder.

The event will be held at The Galloway Activity Centre which has parking and a café. There is a mix of on-site accommodation for those wishing to stay over, including a number of luxury off-grid pods with hot tubs for a well deserved soak after the race!

We are an AALA licenced, RYA recognised training centre operating for over 30 years and will have instructional staff managing the on-water safety cover during the day. Safety cover will consist of a number of RIB's and a high ratio paddlers to swimmers. First aid points will be stationed along the Loch managed by staff from the local EFAR Scotland who know the Loch well and have a background in event first aid provision.

During registration, you will be asked to give the time you expect to complete the swim in. This must be as accurate as possible and you are advised to update us closer to the event if your expected time changes. Participants will be split into groups with separate start times based on their expected speed and the safety team cannot separate for individual participants. If you swim faster than the group you may be asked to pull back if you cannot keep pace with the group you may have to exit. Depending on the time range of entrants we may place a maximum time restriction for the event.

Entry fees include swim cap, timing chips, transport back after the race, compulsory feed station and parking. Wetsuits and tow-floats are compulsory and both can be hired from the centre (please book towfloat hire in advance if needed, £5 per float).

You will receive a final confirmation email roughly a week before the event which will contain a confirmed route map and schedule for the day.
